The company is currently seeking two Seasonal Wildfire Operations Specialists to join its Planning, Engineering, and Construction team for a fixed-term seasonal position running from June 29 to September 30, 2026. This role is essential to Idaho Power’s Wildfire Mitigation Program, focusing on field-based wildfire mitigation, vegetation management, and asset protection. The Wildfire Operations Specialists play a critical role in reducing wildfire risk, minimizing potential damages to company infrastructure, and supporting safe operational coordination with responding agencies during wildfire events.

This seasonal role offers a pay range of $38.56 to $46.44 per hour and is classified as non-exempt, providing opportunities for overtime pay where applicable. The position is physically demanding and requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and rugged terrain. Employees in this role will be expected to carry equipment, operate tools and vehicles safely, and conduct observational duties that support wildfire suppression and incident command efforts. Additionally, they serve as initial liaisons with agencies to ensure cohesive communication and coordinated wildfire response.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three or more years of wildland firefighting, vegetation management, or emergency response experience
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Basic Firefighter (NWCG FFT2) or equivalent training
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire
  • Must be able to obtain Department of Transportation (DOT) Med Card prior to hire
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in extreme weather and variable terrain
  • Capacity for overnight deployments and extended assignments

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three or more years of experience in wildland firefighting, vegetation management, or emergency response
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Basic Firefighter (NWCG FFT2) or equivalent training
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card prior to hire
  • Knowledge of wildfire behavior, suppression tactics, and incident command structure (ICS)
  • Experience in vegetation management and fuels reduction
  • Strong communication skills for documenting and reporting field activities
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow safety protocols

Job Duties

  • Support Idaho Power’s Wildfire Mitigation Program through field-based wildfire mitigation activities
  • Assist with vegetation management and fuels reduction efforts
  • Implement the Wildfire Mitigation Plan to reduce wildfire risk and protect company assets
  • Perform fire behavior observations and report on fire conditions
  • Provide situational awareness and coordinate communication with company leadership and responding agencies
  • Serve as initial agency liaison during wildfire incidents to ensure safe and coordinated operations
  • Operate hand tools, power equipment, and vehicles safely for vegetation management tasks
