Job Description
The Eugene Family YMCA is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Rooted in core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, the YMCA fosters an inclusive and supportive culture where members and staff alike can belong and become their best selves. The organization emphasizes genuine relationships, hope in potential, nurturing growth, and determination in building stronger communities. Located in Eugene, Oregon, the YMCA serves a broad demographic, offering a variety of programs and resources designed to promote well-being, personal development, and civic engagement.
The Wellness Center Manager role is a vital leadership position within the Health & Wellness department at the Eugene Family YMCA. This full-time, exempt position requires flexibility including evenings, weekends, and special events to effectively oversee the operations of the Wellness Center. Reporting to the Health & Wellness Director, the Manager will lead teams of Health & Wellness Attendants, Personal Trainers, and Fitness Equipment Technicians, ensuring that the facility is a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for both members and employees. This position balances strategic oversight with hands-on management, providing direct supervision, coaching, and accountability to maintain a high standard of member service consistent with the YMCA's mission and values.
Responsibilities include managing day-to-day wellness center activities such as equipment maintenance, staff scheduling, performance evaluations, and operational decision-making. The Manager is expected to be a visible, approachable leader on the floor, fostering collaboration among staff and serving as a key contributor to departmental strategies. Managing preventative maintenance schedules, coordinating repairs with vendors, and tracking equipment downtime are essential functions to ensure that the wellness equipment stays in optimal condition. Additionally, the role supports long-term planning by analyzing usage patterns and member feedback to recommend improvements.
Effective communication, conflict resolution, and staff development are central aspects of the Manager's duties, alongside upholding the YMCA's standards through clear expectations and documented procedures. The Wellness Center Manager also plays an important role in promoting an inclusive culture that reflects the YMCA's commitment to being the Most Welcoming Place on Earth. This includes participating actively in meetings, supporting events and initiatives, and ensuring compliance with all required certifications and trainings.
Ideal candidates bring a combination of formal education in health, wellness, or exercise science and practical experience in fitness and wellness management, including equipment oversight. Supervisory experience with a focus on coaching and accountability is crucial, as is the ability to navigate complex operational challenges with sound judgment. Experience within nonprofit or mission-driven organizations, especially YMCAs, and skills in managing change and fostering team culture during transitions are desirable. Bilingual skills, particularly English and Spanish, are a plus for enhancing community engagement.
The wellness center now invites dedicated individuals to apply for this leadership opportunity, promising a collaborative environment, a mission-driven culture, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on community health and wellness. The role offers the rewarding challenge of guiding a committed team while supporting the broader aims of the Eugene Family YMCA to create positive change and improve lives.
