Houston Food Bank is a leading hunger-relief organization based in Houston, Texas, dedicated to eliminating hunger across the community by providing food and support services to those in need. As the largest food bank in the nation in terms of distribution, Houston Food Bank works tirelessly with thousands of partner agencies and volunteers to ensure that individuals and families have access to nutritious meals. The organization operates a network of distribution centers, which supply food to food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community programs. Houston Food Bank’s commitment extends beyond food distribution, incorporating community education, advocacy, and emergency response efforts to address the root causes of hunger and food insecurity. They pride themselves on efficiency, compassion, and transparency, guided by core values such as purpose, accountability, courage, and transparency.
The Welcome Desk Receptionist plays a critical role as the first point of contact for visitors, volunteers, guests, and staff at Houston Food Bank. This position functions as an ambassador for the organization, welcoming everyone with warmth and professionalism while helping direct them appropriately based on their needs. The role is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring the ability to handle multiple inquiries simultaneously, especially when large groups of volunteers are present. Duties include answering and routing phone calls, managing volunteer registration and data, assisting with the sale and inventory management of the Houston Food Bank store, and handling incoming packages and mail. The receptionist also ensures that the welcome desk is fully equipped with necessary supplies and information to provide a seamless visitor experience.
This position demands strong customer service skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. The receptionist must be organized, capable of multitasking, and able to collaborate effectively with diverse staff and volunteer groups. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires working various shifts between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm to support the organization’s operational needs. A friendly and approachable demeanor is important to create a welcoming environment that reflects Houston Food Bank’s mission and values.
