The role of Welcome Desk Associate at The Salvation Army offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of community interaction and support. The associate is tasked with verifying memberships through the Point of Sale (POS) system, answering inquiries regarding available programs, and providing assistance with scholarship applications. Moreover, the role involves maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of service areas, managing the POS stations, and securing these areas during shift changes.

This vital frontline role demands individuals who can exhibit empathy, clear and effective communication, and a positive, energetic demeanor even in fast-paced environments. The Welcome Desk Associate acts as the face of The Salvation Army for many visitors, contributing significantly to the organization’s mission by facilitating access to its diverse programs while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Working independently with minimal supervision, yet thriving as part of a collaborative team, this position enables individuals to contribute meaningfully to the local community served by The Salvation Army. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check including a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check
  • must be 18 years of age or older
  • bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus but not required
  • ability to handle cash and operate POS system
  • ability to communicate effectively in English
  • must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously
  • ability to lift up to 25 lbs
  • must have excellent telephone and typing skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • previous cashier and/or customer service experience helpful
  • computer software application experience helpful
  • ability to communicate effectively with clientele and staff
  • ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members, and customers
  • ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with customers, clients, members, and staff
  • ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • thrive in a team-oriented environment
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure
  • excellent telephone skills
  • proficient typing skills
  • ability to empathize, communicate and work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds
  • knowledge of Salvation Army policies and procedures helpful

Job Duties

  • Provide great customer service to the community
  • see that all customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service
  • check in customers in a friendly, caring, inviting manner
  • handle cash, make changes and operate the POS system
  • receive and handle incoming telephone calls, visitors, and emails in a friendly and businesslike manner
  • maintain progressive knowledge of all programs and facilities
  • observe and identify customers, clients and members that may be recommended candidates for scholarship
  • aid with scholarship application process
  • maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the POS stations and kiosks
  • secure the POS area at the open and close of shift
  • adhere to Suisun City, Kroc Center operations as well as all policy procedures as adopted by Administration
  • check equipment out to members following appropriate procedures
  • observe all safety rules and regulations
  • attend staff meetings as assigned
  • provide referral information to meet individual and family needs
  • maintain confidentiality
