Job Description

The University of New Mexico (UNM) is a prominent public research university located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Established in 1889, UNM has grown to become a leading institution for higher education in the Southwestern United States. It offers a wide array of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs through its various colleges and schools. UNM is renowned for its diverse student body and commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments that promote academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement. The university emphasizes student success and access, striving to provide resources and services that enhance the overall campus experience for all its students, faculty, and staff.

Within the Division of Enrollment Management and Admissions Office at UNM, the Welcome Center serves as a vital hub for new student recruitment and visitor engagement. The center plays a key role in representing the university to prospective students, families, and community members by providing personalized guidance, campus tours, and informational sessions. Maintaining a welcoming and professional atmosphere, the Welcome Center is integral to UNM's efforts to connect with potential students and foster a positive first impression that encourages enrollment and supports student retention.

The Welcome Center Manager position at UNM is an exciting leadership role designed for an experienced, motivated, and organized professional with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for higher education administration. Reporting directly to the Director of Admissions, the manager will oversee daily operations of the Welcome Center, ensuring smooth functioning and the effective coordination of recruitment activities. This includes supervision and management of professional and student staff, strategic event planning and execution—both in-person and online—and maintaining visitor engagement that reflects UNM's commitment to excellence and inclusivity.

The role demands a high-energy individual who can work independently while exercising sound judgment and professional decision-making. Key responsibilities include staff leadership, facility management, public presentations, campus tours, and administration of student information systems. The manager will also collaborate with other university departments and community partners to enhance outreach efforts and contribute to overall enrollment goals. The position requires flexibility, including standard work hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate university events and prospective student visits.

This is a full-time, term-limited staff position with a current term end date of June 30, 2026. The salary range is competitive, offering monthly compensation between $4,236.27 and $5,416.67. This benefits-eligible role includes a comprehensive benefits package featuring medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as educational benefits such as tuition remission and dependent education programs. The University of New Mexico prides itself on a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, veteran status, disability, or any other protected class.

Given the importance of the Welcome Center in shaping prospective student experiences and advancing the university's recruitment strategy, this management role is critical to sustaining UNM's position as a top choice for higher education. Candidates with university campus experience, team leadership in recruitment, event planning expertise, public speaking skills, and familiarity with student information systems like Ellucian and Salesforce are highly preferred. Successful applicants will embody energy, vision, and meticulous attention to detail while representing the university's welcoming mission to visitors and stakeholders alike.
