Job Description

Located in the heart of Fort Wayne, Indiana, the City of Fort Wayne is committed to delivering top-notch public services and fostering community engagement through a variety of vibrant events and programs. With a strong dedication to enhancing local life, the city provides an inviting atmosphere where residents and visitors alike can participate in numerous cultural, recreational, and social activities. The Community Center plays a pivotal role in hosting these events, requiring dedicated staff members to ensure everything runs smoothly and participants have positive, memorable experiences.

This part-time Weekend/Evening Receptionist position offers a unique opportunity to join the City of Fort Wayne's event support team, working primarily during evenings, weekends, and occasionally varying weekday hours. With an hourly wage of $17.58, the role is designed for individuals who are calm under pressure, organized, and have a people-first attitude. As the face of the Community Center during rentals and events, you will be instrumental in creating a welcoming environment that supports event success from start to finish.

In this role, you will be responsible for greeting guests warmly, offering directions, and serving as the main point of contact for clients, vendors, and event participants. Your efforts will directly contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient facility while providing excellent customer service. Duties include operating the point-of-sale (POS) system, assisting with administrative and clerical tasks, monitoring event activities to handle issues professionally, and supporting event setup and cleanup including the preparation of restrooms and common areas. This hands-on position requires an ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced public environment, strengthening your problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

The City of Fort Wayne values dependable and flexible individuals who can adapt to changing schedules and meet the demands of a dynamic workplace. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain valuable experience in event management and community service within a supportive municipal environment. Additionally, working for the city means being part of a community-focused team that plays an essential role in bringing local events to life, promoting engagement, and enriching the cultural fabric of Fort Wayne. Equal opportunity employment is a cornerstone of this organization, emphasizing inclusivity and diversity.

This position not only offers competitive compensation but also the rewarding experience of supporting your community through meaningful events and public engagement. Candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent and some customer-facing experience are encouraged to apply, while those holding a valid Indiana Driver's License may have preferred standing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic POS systems, along with strong communication and customer service skills, will help you thrive in this role. If you have a passion for helping others and are ready to contribute to the success of community events, this receptionist role provides an excellent platform to grow your career while making a positive impact locally.
