The part-time Resident Assistant position at UGM's Crisis Shelter for Women and Children is a vital role that contributes to the safety, security, and well-being of clients. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about serving others through both operational oversight and ministry involvement. Working approximately 16 hours per week, the Resident Assistant helps maintain a clean, safe, and healing environment by supervising client services, coordinating volunteer activities, and ensuring compliance with facility policies. The role requires vigilance in security measures, effective communication with staff and clients, and participation in ministry duties such as Bible study, prayer, devotions, and sharing the Gospel.

The Resident Assistant is expected to model servant leadership, demonstrate patience and emotional balance, and uphold the mission of UGM with integrity. Candidates should be committed Christians willing to engage with clients and team members alike to promote recovery, safety, and spiritual growth. Responsibilities include managing intake and exit procedures, administering random tests for substance use, monitoring security cameras, responding to emergencies, and leading clients through self-evaluations. In addition to operational tasks, the Resident Assistant participates in meetings, trainings, and ministry outreach efforts that reinforce the goals and values of Union Gospel Mission.

Successful applicants should have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, preferably with experience working with low-income or marginalized populations. Knowledge of chemical dependency and addiction processes is valuable, along with computer literacy in Microsoft Office and client management systems. Essential qualifications include strong interpersonal skills, the ability to maintain boundaries, and a trustworthy character. Sobriety of at least three years is required for those in recovery. This position requires a valid Washington or Idaho driver’s license, CPR/First Aid certification (recommended), and the ability to pass background and TB clearances.
