The position available is for a Water Resources Technician in Stantec’s multi-disciplinary office located in Minneapolis, MN. This full-time role requires a flexible candidate who is comfortable working both in the office and on construction sites performing inspection duties. Although most projects are based in the Twin Cities metro area, this position requires occasional travel, often involving stays of two weeks or more in Greater Minnesota or neighboring states. The role includes conducting erosion control and stormwater inspections, ensuring environmental compliance, monitoring wetland and restoration activity, and supporting quality assurance on construction sites. The pay range for this role is between $40,200 and $54,300 annually, with the final salary depending on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Job Requirements

  • Possess a technical degree, diploma, certificate or equivalent in a related field
  • Have 0-2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Be knowledgeable of the Twin Cities metro area
  • Have strong verbal, written, and technical communication skills
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Exhibit strong note-taking and fundamental technical writing skills
  • Be capable of working well independently and within a team
  • Be willing to work weekends when weather and construction necessitate
  • Be able to travel to remote project sites for extended periods
  • Understand HSSE policies and undergo client-specific training as required
  • Possess willingness to learn new skills related to fieldwork
  • Preferably have experience in construction site stormwater and utility compliance
  • Preferably have current knowledge of site BMPs
  • Preferably have knowledge of stormwater and utility regulatory requirements
  • Preferably have knowledge of database management
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and meet motor vehicle record requirements

Job Duties

  • Conduct erosion control, stormwater, and environmental compliance inspections and documentation on active construction sites
  • Determine restoration methods for wetlands, ensuring seed mixes conform to project requirements
  • Monitor construction activity for noxious weed infestation and oversee final restoration activities
  • Monitor, photograph, and document incoming equipment from contractors for cleanliness standards
  • Verify wetlands are protected during construction and monitor clearing activities
  • Document noncompliance issues and collaborate with construction personnel on corrective actions
  • Review and prepare erosion and sediment control plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs)
  • Assist with NPDES program development and MS4 permit preparation
  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Communicate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders
  • Assist in preparing technical reports
  • Participate in maintaining safety culture, including exercising stop-work authority
  • Travel to remote sites requiring overnight stays for extended periods
