The Environmental Waste Coordinator plays a critical role within Intermountain Health by leading sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing waste and promoting environmentally responsible practices throughout its facilities. Key responsibilities include auditing waste containers, managing hauler relationships, coordinating projects promoting safety and teamwork, and serving as the subject matter expert on waste management to educate and support employees. The Environmental Waste Coordinator must have a strong understanding of waste regulations such as USDOT, NIOSH, OSHA, and Joint Commission standards. Candidates with a background in healthcare or waste-related environments, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, or a related field, are highly valued.
This role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $31.01 to $48.84, depending on experience, and is based in Murray, Utah at the Valley Center Tower. - frequent interactions that require verbal communication as well as hearing and understanding spoken information quickly and accurately
- manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy including frequent computer use
- for roles requiring driving, expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles
Job Qualifications
- Three years of healthcare environment or waste related experience preferred
- bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, or a related field preferred
- ability to understand a waste invoice, measure volume, and recommend reduction opportunities from analogy preferred
- strong knowledge of USDOT, NIOSH, OSHA, and Joint Commission regulations related to waste and/or healthcare preferred
- demonstrated healthcare environment or waste related experience
- demonstrated strong communication and the ability to apply influencing practices across a varying range of personnel
- demonstrated customer service experience
- proven ability to multi-task and manage both small and large-scale project management projects
- ability to work independently and be a self-starter with proven experience in problem solving
- proven organizational skills including the ability to be detail-oriented
- ability to travel throughout the Intermountain system as needed
Job Duties
- Collaborate with environmental service leaders for opportunities to reduce, reuse, and recycle
- manage hauler relationships, service frequency, invoicing, and data to meet organization goals
- proactively interact with internal customers, vendors, and municipalities to optimize compliance, operations, and contract performance
- travel and audit facilities waste containers for sustainability and compliance of the waste stream program
- support facility development, standardization, best practices, and implementation of waste programs
- coordinate projects and programs that promote safety, collaboration, and teamwork among employees and stakeholders
- educate and answer employees waste related questions and concerns as the subject matter expert
