This job opening is for a part-time Waiter/Waitress position located at the Cleveland Museum of Art, situated at 11150 East Boulevard, Cleveland, OH. The position involves working a flexible part-time schedule with varied days and hours, including most weekdays, some nights, and holidays. Pay for this role is fixed at $12.35 per hour. The Waiter/Waitress will be responsible for delivering excellent food and beverage service to museum guests. This involves taking and delivering orders efficiently and professionally, greeting guests warmly, and maintaining compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. The role requires a thorough knowledge of the menu and the ability to advise guests on food and drink combinations, as well as accommodating special requests and understanding specialized diets and allergens when necessary. Interaction with kitchen and back-of-house staff is essential to ensure orders are accurate and guest needs are met. Strong communication skills and a courteous attitude towards guests and colleagues are critical.

Other responsibilities include handling cash transactions properly, keeping the dining area clean and organized, and operating a range of equipment like beverage machines and telephones. This position may also require working with colleagues across other departments during special events. Employees are expected to maintain confidentiality regarding guest information and solve guest complaints promptly, escalating issues when appropriate.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous experience in a serving or customer service role preferred
  • ability to work part-time flexible schedules including weekdays, some nights, and holidays
  • legal authorization to work in the United States
  • ability to communicate effectively with guests and staff
  • physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods

Job Duties

  • promptly and warmly greet guests in the dining room

  • collect tickets and follow proper cash-handling procedures
  • maintain a clean, safe, and neat dining environment
  • address guest complaints and relay information to supervisors
  • set up and clean the dining area before and after service
  • operate equipment including fire extinguishers, telephones, iced tea machines, soda machines, soup wells, and coffee machines
  • collaborate with other departments during special events
  • perform other assigned duties
