Job Description
US Foods is one of America's leading foodservice distributors, dedicated to providing top-quality products, innovative solutions, and excellent service to a diverse range of customers across the country. The company operates numerous distribution centers strategically located to efficiently serve restaurants, healthcare institutions, educational facilities, and hospitality clients. Known for its commitment to food safety, sustainability, and community engagement, US Foods continuously invests in technology and operations to optimize its supply chain and customer experience. As a major player in the food distribution industry, US Foods offers a dynamic and fast-paced work environment that values teamwork, leadership, and professional growth. The company provides competitive compensation packages and a comprehensive benefits program designed to support the health, wellbeing, and financial security of its employees.
The role of Vice President (VP) of Operations at US Foods Distribution Centers (DCs) represents a critical leadership position responsible for the overall management and operations of market distribution centers. This senior role reports directly to the Regional Vice President (RVP) Operations and has a dotted-line reporting relationship with the Area President, overseeing one to three distribution centers within their market. The VP Operations ensures that the distribution centers operate safely, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining high standards of service. This involves directing site operations, implementing strategic plans, coordinating various functions such as shipping, receiving, transportation, purchasing, and sales, and aligning operational goals with broader business objectives.
The VP Operations holds accountability for the long-term planning and execution of departmental objectives that support the company’s growth and operational excellence. They lead initiatives to control inventory, minimize losses, prevent accidents, and enforce safety and compliance regulations including OSHA, D.O.T., and HAACP standards. In addition, they cultivate a culture of continuous improvement by identifying synergies, adopting best practices, and leveraging technology to enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.
An essential aspect of the role includes personnel management, where the VP delegates responsibilities to managers, oversees workforce performance, enforces company policies related to safety and discipline, and fosters employee development through training and performance improvement plans. The position demands strong leadership skills to manage a diverse team of warehouse associates and operations managers effectively while navigating labor relations and maintaining a positive working environment.
The VP Operations participates actively in industry networking opportunities and knowledge-sharing forums to bring fresh insights and innovative solutions to the distribution centers they oversee. This strategic role not only ensures operational success on the ground but also contributes to the broader strategic direction set by market and corporate leadership.
This position typically offers a competitive salary range of $155,000 to $235,000 annually, depending on factors such as experience, education, geographic location, and specific skills. Additionally, the VP Operations role may be eligible for an annual incentive plan bonus. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, disability coverage, employee stock purchase plans, and more, reflecting US Foods’ commitment to supporting their workforce's professional and personal wellbeing.
