The Michigan League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (MLCVEF) is one of Michigan's most influential and largest organizations dedicated to addressing critical environmental and democratic issues. With a focus on combating drinking water contamination, mitigating the effects of climate change, and protecting voting rights, MLCVEF has established itself as a powerful force for social and environmental justice in the state. Operating primarily in Michigan, the organization works tirelessly to ensure that the voices of marginalized communities are amplified and their rights safeguarded, particularly as these issues disproportionately affect Black, brown, young, and historically disenfranchised voters. Through advocacy, education, and community mobilization, MLCVEF strives to create a healthier, more equitable future for all residents of Michigan.

The organization is currently seeking a dynamic, temporary, full-time Voting Rights Organizer to join their team based in the Detroit metro area. This role will play a pivotal part in educating, engaging, and mobilizing voters to actively participate in the 2026 Midterm Election across Southeast Michigan. The Voting Rights Organizer will be responsible for expanding statewide initiatives aimed at protecting voting rights, increasing civic engagement, and responding swiftly to emerging threats to democracy. The role demands a committed self-starter who is passionate about politics and democracy, with a keen understanding of the interplay between environmental justice and voter rights.

The Voting Rights Organizer will engage directly with voters and community partners to grow the organization's volunteer base, advocate for voter registration, educate on early voting options, and nurture collective power within the community. The organizer will conduct daily fieldwork involving organizing and executing in-person events with meticulous attention to detail, supporting voter education and election safeguarding efforts. They will represent MLCVEF at various community events, foster active relationships with trusted local hubs such as barber shops, churches, high schools, senior centers, and block clubs, and participate in robust community organizing activities including phone banking, door-to-door canvassing, text banking, and relational organizing.

Among the organizer's key responsibilities is leading relational organizing campaigns via the Empower app and working collaboratively on Get Out The Vote (GOTV) initiatives. This includes coordinating voter registration drives, participating in election protection activities before and on Election Day, and conducting trainings focused on expanding voter access. The position also involves collaborating on youth and civics engagement efforts by connecting with educators and youth organizations to support the development of the next generation of voters through pre-registration efforts, rights education, and internship program support.

Furthermore, the Voting Rights Organizer will be instrumental in creating visibility for the organization's mission by distributing election resources, identifying and supporting digital or real-world ambassadors, and maintaining a pulse on local voting rights issues to inform strategy. Accurate tracking of fieldwork progress and volunteer engagement is another crucial aspect of the role, requiring diligent record-keeping and regular reporting.

This temporary position offers a competitive hourly wage of $23 at 40 hours per week, running through November 8, 2026. Applicants should be prepared for a hybrid remote work environment based in Detroit, Michigan, with the flexibility to work many weekends, evenings, and mandatory 12-hour shifts on Election Day.
