Job Description
We are a chartered council of the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), which is the world\'s leading organization dedicated solely to the empowerment and development of girls. Our organization operates in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, serving almost 7,000 girls through the dedicated efforts of more than 5,000 trained volunteers. The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. In this nurturing and inclusive environment, girls have opportunities to explore diverse educational topics such as science, technology, and environmental stewardship, alongside vital life skills including healthy living, anti-bullying advocacy, and financial literacy. Through their involvement, girls develop lifelong qualities including strong values, social conscience, and a solid sense of self-worth, preparing them to lead and innovate in their future personal and professional endeavors.
The role of Volunteer Support Manager is a pivotal leadership position within our organization. This position focuses on inspiring, managing, and supporting our volunteer teams who are essential in delivering enriching experiences to our girl members. As Volunteer Support Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of volunteer support professionals, including new leader specialists, troop leaders, and service unit volunteers, with the goal of fostering exceptional volunteer engagement and retention. You will steer innovative retention strategies, manage conflict resolution processes, and coordinate volunteer recognition initiatives such as awards ceremonies for both girls and adults. Your leadership will ensure volunteers feel valued, supported, and motivated in their critical role within our service units.
This hybrid role offers flexible working hours with partial remote work available following completion of training. The Volunteer Support Manager provides essential operational oversight, including budget management, goal setting, and performance evaluations, aimed at cultivating a high-performing team dedicated to excellence. You will also manage key communication channels, facilitate the use of volunteer management tools such as Rallyhood and the Volunteer Toolkit, and interpret relevant GSUSA initiatives and trends to keep the community informed and engaged.
In addition to your leadership duties, you will play a vital role in advancing the diversity, equity, inclusion, and access principles of the Council, creating an environment where all volunteers and staff can thrive. With an excellent benefit package including medical and dental insurance with significant premium coverage, life insurance, Aflac benefits, a 403b retirement plan with match, 12 holidays including the last week of December, and a generous leave program starting on day one of employment, this position offers a supportive and enriching professional environment for the right candidate. If you are a passionate and collaborative leader with experience in volunteer management and a commitment to fostering strong community connections, this role presents a valuable opportunity to make a profound positive impact in the lives of girls and volunteers alike.
