The Volunteer Coordinator role at Corewell Health Hospice is a part-time position based at the Continuing Care site in Grand Rapids, focusing on managing all aspects of the volunteer program for the hospice unit. This position is critical in enhancing patient experience by coordinating volunteer recruitment, placement, training, and recognition. The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with leaders and staff to identify appropriate placements for volunteers, ensuring compliance with all prerequisites before volunteer involvement. Additionally, the role involves developing new program deployment strategies and increasing community engagement through speaking opportunities and participation in local associations and public forums.

Key responsibilities include maintaining volunteer records for compliance, organizing educational and training opportunities, planning volunteer recognition events, and managing concierge service programs in partnership with businesses and employees. The position requires a proactive approach to program growth, quality improvement, and cost-effective resource management. The Volunteer Coordinator also plays a role in process improvement initiatives that impact patient and employee experiences and operational efficiency. This role operates Monday through Friday during the day shift from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and offers 24 hours of scheduled work per week.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 2 years of relevant experience in volunteer oversight, health care setting, recruiting, training, coordinating, or recognizing volunteers
  • demonstrated leadership ability
  • preferred: associate's degree or equivalent business, office administration, or related field

Job Duties

  • Coordinate all aspects of the volunteer program for Corewell Health Hospice
  • plan, organize, and direct volunteer recruitment, selection, placement, compliance, data collection, and utilization
  • develop new avenues for program deployment and community engagement
  • partner with leaders and staff to identify appropriate volunteer placements
  • recruit, select, assign, and orient volunteers
  • collect and maintain volunteer records for compliance
  • coordinate and provide volunteer educational and training opportunities
  • plan and implement volunteer recognition events
  • solicit businesses for the employee concierge programs and develop communications for concierge services
  • manage program budgets, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
  • participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient and employee experience and operational efficiency
