Job Description

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is a well-established nonprofit animal shelter serving the counties of El Paso, Pueblo, Douglas, and the City of Centennial, Colorado. With a dedicated team of over 200 employees and more than 800 active volunteers, HSPPR plays a crucial role in animal welfare and community support in this region, providing shelter, rescue, and care services for animals in need. The shelter is located in an area known for its nearly year-round beautiful blue skies and a scenic mountain backdrop, which not only creates a beautiful working environment but also a vibrant community atmosphere.

HSPPR is deeply committed to diversity and inclusion, fostering an organizational culture that embraces compassion, respect, and kindness toward animals and people alike. This commitment is embodied across all levels of the organization, from staff to volunteers, ensuring that the mission and core values are consistently upheld.

We are currently seeking a Volunteer Services Coordinator to support our ongoing efforts by overseeing our volunteer program in Colorado Springs. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our shelter, contributing as much as 55 full-time staff members and encompassing over 20 in-shelter roles. They also provide critical support for Community Animal Response Teams (CART) during emergencies, assist with fundraising efforts, and contribute through our humane education programs and internships. The Volunteer Services Coordinator is integral to creating and maintaining a positive, meaningful volunteer experience that aligns with HSPPR's operational goals and community impact.

The role involves working closely with the Volunteer Services team and various shelter departments to assess volunteer needs, place volunteers effectively, and enhance organizational support. This coordinator position demands a highly collaborative, people-oriented individual who embodies a strong commitment to serving volunteers, staff, and the wider community. Key responsibilities include recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, training, and recognizing volunteers while ensuring safety and humane treatment of animals. The position requires excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

The Coordinator will foster an environment of compassion and respect that reflects HSPPR's values and management philosophy. It also requires maintaining professional relationships with community partners, providing on-site coordination at philanthropy events, managing volunteer data and schedules, and actively participating in ongoing professional development. This full-time, on-site role typically operates five eight-hour shifts Sunday through Thursday, including weekend days, evenings, early mornings, and holidays as needed.

At HSPPR, we believe in not only providing exceptional care for animals but also creating a workplace where every employee and volunteer feels valued and empowered. If you are motivated by teamwork, community engagement, and making a tangible difference in the lives of pets and people, this Volunteer Services Coordinator position offers a rewarding career path with a well-respected nonprofit animal welfare organization. The position offers comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with employer matching, paid time off, holidays, and personal pet perks. Join us in fulfilling our mission to serve the animals and communities of the Pikes Peak Region with excellence, integrity, and compassion.
