The current opportunity is for a dynamic and experienced professional to join The Salvation Army as a Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator. This full-time role involves planning, developing, coordinating, managing, and monitoring all public relations, volunteer, and special events activities related to the Area Coordinate. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting, training, coordinating, and supervising volunteers to ensure sufficient staffing for program needs. Additionally, this role involves overseeing all special events, writing and submitting news and press releases, and handling various marketing functions to promote The Salvation Army's mission and programs.
The position requires a blend of marketing acumen, volunteer management skills, and event planning experience. The role is multifaceted and includes writing quarterly newsletters, creating promotional materials such as brochures and annual reports, conducting presentations for public relations purposes, and maintaining constant communication with the public. Volunteer coordination demands strong organizational capabilities, managing volunteer records, planning appreciation events, and ensuring compliance with background checks and organizational policies.
Special events coordination is a significant component, involving leadership in fundraising activities like Christmas kettles and the Angel Tree program. The coordinator will solicit volunteers, manage event logistics, establish fundraising goals, and evaluate event effectiveness. Acting as a liaison, the incumbent will represent The Salvation Army to media, community groups, and various stakeholders, ensuring positive public engagement and awareness.
This role also includes administrative duties such as preparing and administering budgets, monitoring expenditures, traveling for training or oversight, and working flexible hours including evenings and weekends as necessary. The incumbent must perform their duties in alignment with the ministry of The Salvation Army, maintaining professionalism grounded in the organization's Christian values.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university related in business administration, communications, public relations, marketing, or related field
- four to five years progressively responsible experience overseeing special events and/or volunteer-related activities or any equivalent combinations of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- valid state driver’s license
