Job Description

The Salvation Army is a respected international movement and evangelical branch of the universal Christian church. Founded on the principles of the Bible and motivated by the love of God, this organization is dedicated to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ while meeting human needs without discrimination. Operating in communities worldwide, The Salvation Army provides essential services and support to those in need, including disaster relief, social programs, shelter, and rehabilitation as part of its commitment to compassion and community service. Thanks to its widespread impact and faith-driven mission, The Salvation Army has built a trusted reputation for fostering positive change in countless lives through its diverse programs and outreach efforts.

This part-time Volunteer Coordinator role (29 hours per week at a pay rate of $24.00 per hour) offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about community service and volunteer management. The Volunteer Coordinator will play a crucial role in sustaining and expanding the volunteer base for The Salvation Army’s local area programs and seasonal events. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing volunteer recruitment, training, and retention strategies to ensure community engagement aligns with the organization's mission. The role involves managing volunteer data, overseeing administrative correspondence, coordinating special events, and nurturing relationships with community partners and volunteers alike.

In addition to recruiting for well-known seasonal campaigns such as the Christmas Toy Shop and bell ringing, the coordinator will strategically foster ongoing volunteer involvement in programs like food distribution and back-to-school initiatives. This position requires a proactive approach to liaise with schools, businesses, and agencies, promoting volunteer opportunities and event partnerships that support The Salvation Army's outreach goals. Excellent organizational and communication skills are emphasized to maintain an efficient volunteer tracking system, facilitate volunteer recognition events, and handle any recommended policy updates related to volunteer operations.

The role also involves public engagement through participation at various community events, requiring availability during evenings and weekends as necessary. Driving is an essential function of this position, with candidates expected to have a valid driver’s license and approval through the Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program. The physical demands of this role necessitate good manual dexterity, mobility for extended periods, and the occasional lifting of items over 25 pounds. Emphasizing adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, this position is ideal for candidates who thrive in dynamic environments and are committed to a faith-based mission of service.

Working within a supportive office environment with moderate noise conditions, the Volunteer Coordinator will report to management and directly supervise volunteers, helping to amplify The Salvation Army's community impact and sustain its vital programs.
