Job Description
Isabel's House: Crisis Nursery of the Ozarks is a dedicated nonprofit organization located in Springfield, Missouri, committed to providing immediate refuge to children whose families are experiencing crisis. Established as a vital community resource, Isabel's House aims to prevent child abuse and neglect by offering a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children while supporting and strengthening families. Through partnerships with local families, volunteers, and community organizations, Isabel's House plays a pivotal role in promoting child welfare and empowering families throughout the Ozarks region.
The organization relies heavily on the compassion and dedication of volunteers to fulfill its mission. These volunteers contribute their time, skills, and energy to a variety of programs and services designed to provide safety, comfort, and support to children and families in need. Isabel's House fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment where volunteers feel valued and are provided with meaningful opportunities to make a positive impact within their community.
The role of Volunteer Coordinator at Isabel's House is a crucial position that supports the mission by managing all aspects of the volunteer program. This part-time, non-exempt position involves working approximately 25 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend hours required for volunteer training, events, or community engagement activities. The hourly pay ranges between $23 and $25, depending on experience. Reporting directly to the Director of Development, the Volunteer Coordinator will develop and nurture a vibrant volunteer community that enhances the organization’s capacity to serve children and families effectively.
As Volunteer Coordinator, you will be responsible for recruiting, training, engaging, and retaining volunteers who support Isabel's House's diverse programs and services. You will develop and implement strategic volunteer recruitment initiatives and cultivate strong relationships with community organizations, schools, faith groups, businesses, and other sources of volunteer talent. Managing volunteer interviews, screenings, reference checks, and background checks will ensure compliance with organizational policies and safeguard the welfare of the children served.
Additionally, you will coordinate volunteer orientation and onboarding programs, delivering comprehensive training that covers organizational policies, safety protocols, and mission-driven practices. The Volunteer Coordinator will maintain and update volunteer handbooks, training materials, and resources to provide ongoing learning opportunities that foster volunteer growth and effectiveness.
Volunteer engagement and retention are key aspects of this role. Assigning volunteers to opportunities matching their skills and interests, scheduling assignments, tracking volunteer hours, and providing ongoing supervision and support will help maintain a thriving volunteer program. Regular communication efforts will keep volunteers informed, connected, and motivated. By monitoring volunteer satisfaction and program effectiveness through surveys and feedback, you will recommend improvements to enhance volunteer experiences and program outcomes.
The Volunteer Coordinator will also champion the development of youth volunteer leadership, supporting Isabel's House Junior Board and initiatives that encourage youth service and leadership development. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families in crisis while building strong community ties and fostering volunteer engagement in a rewarding nonprofit environment.
