Job Description
United States Veterans Initiatives (U.S.VETS) is a distinguished non-profit organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families by providing them with critical resources, programs, and services aimed at improving their quality of life. U.S.VETS has a longstanding commitment to honoring those who have served by facilitating access to housing, employment, healthcare, and community-based activities tailored to veterans' unique needs. With its deep-rooted focus on veteran welfare, U.S.VETS continually strives to create a supportive and empowering environment where veterans can thrive socially, emotionally, and economically.
Working at U.S.VETS means joining a team passionate about making a tangible difference in the veteran community. The organization offers a collaborative, rewarding workplace culture that embraces diversity and inclusion, providing opportunities for professional growth and meaningful impact. Benefits include paid vacation, sick time, paid holidays, medical, dental, vision coverage, and a company matching 401K, cultivating a supportive and secure work environment. This position is an in-person, local candidate role, requiring dedication to residential program settings with flexible scheduling to accommodate veterans' needs, including holidays.
The Volunteer and Veteran Activities Coordinator will report directly to the Program Manager and play a pivotal role in enhancing the lives of veterans enrolled in U.S.VETS programs. This dynamic role involves coordinating and managing volunteer recruitment, placement, orientation, and training to ensure a robust volunteer network supporting veterans' activities and program goals. Additionally, the coordinator will develop, promote, and maintain a variety of volunteer opportunities that meet the needs of both staff and clients, fostering strong community relationships and securing vital resources for veteran households.
This position is instrumental in organizing therapeutic, recreational, and social activities that engage veterans in fitness, arts, crafts, outings, and other enriching experiences designed to promote their personal growth and improve quality of life. The coordinator responsibilities include cultivating partnerships with local agencies, schools, and community groups to build a vibrant volunteer network, managing detailed records, donor recognition, and assisting with fundraising and event planning. They must be adept at using Microsoft Office programs for reporting and documentation, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrate independent work capability and excellent time management.
The role requires flexibility in scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as activities need to align with the veteran programs' calendar. A valid driver’s license and the ability to comply with insurance requirements are necessary, with occasional transportation of participants and coordination of logistics for events and activities. This position offers a unique chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who have served our country through dedicated volunteer management and veteran engagement.
