Job Description
Operation Freedom Paws is a dedicated nonprofit organization based in San Martin, California, committed to improving the lives of veterans, first responders, and individuals with disabilities through the powerful partnership with service dogs. The organization’s mission of "saving lives at both ends of the leash" signifies a dual impact: enhancing the independence and quality of life for recipients while providing loving, second chances for rescue dogs. Operation Freedom Paws excels at training and matching service dogs to those who need them most, offering a unique blend of compassion, expertise, and community engagement to accomplish this remarkable goal. Established with a clear focus on support and rehabilitation, Operation Freedom Paws continually expands its services and outreach to fulfill growing demand within their community and beyond.
The Volunteer & Events Coordinator role at Operation Freedom Paws is an essential position that plays a critical part in upholding the organization’s mission by managing the volunteer program and coordinating a variety of fundraising and community events. This full-time, in-person role (32 to 40 hours per week) is based at their office in San Martin, California, and entails a dynamic work schedule including some evenings and weekends aligned with event needs. The coordinator supports the robust volunteer program by overseeing recruitment, screening, training, and ongoing volunteer engagement, ensuring volunteers feel valued and motivated to stay committed. This involves managing detailed records, conducting orientations, and fostering strong relationships through consistent communication and recognition.
In addition to volunteer management, this role is responsible for comprehensive event coordination activities, from planning major annual fundraisers like the golf tournament and wine gala to organizing smaller community events. The position demands skills ranging from vendor coordination and venue research to handling logistics, attendee management, and on-site event execution. The Volunteer & Events Coordinator collaborates closely with the Director of Development & Marketing to align event strategies with the organization's fundraising goals while also enhancing community involvement and support.
This role requires strong organizational abilities, excellent communication, and a passion for nonprofit work, particularly within a mission-driven environment. Candidates must be capable of balancing independent work with collaboration in a small team setting amid a variety of tasks such as data entry and reporting. There are physical aspects as well, including lifting and setting up event materials. Key personal attributes include attention to detail, commitment to service, and a strong belief in the organization's purpose to support those who have served and individuals facing challenges.
Overall, the Volunteer & Events Coordinator is integral to sustaining and growing a vibrant volunteer base and successfully executing events that raise funds, build awareness, and strengthen community ties necessary for the ongoing impact of Operation Freedom Paws.
