Job Description
The Home for Little Wanderers is a well-established, mission-driven organization committed to helping vulnerable children and their families build permanent and positive change. As a leader in child and family services, the Home for Little Wanderers has provided a range of therapeutic, educational, and vocational programs aimed at supporting youth with emotional impairments and varying academic needs. Their comprehensive approach focuses on fostering intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth, ensuring every child has the opportunity to develop the skills necessary for long-term success. The organization values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, creating a welcoming, supportive environment for both clients and staff alike.
The COVE School Culinary Instructor position plays a pivotal role within this dynamic team under the direction of the Principal and the Vice Principal/Vocational Director. This position is instrumental in coordinating the school's vocational programming, specifically focusing on Culinary, Hospitality, and Small Business initiatives. The Culinary Instructor will collaborate closely with the vocational team to design, implement, and expand educational programs that not only teach culinary skills but also incorporate entrepreneurship, computer literacy, and employability development tailored for therapeutic class groupings of special education students. These students primarily present with emotional impairments and perform at different academic levels.
This role involves more than classroom instruction; it includes creating and overseeing internship opportunities, facilitating hands-on learning experiences both on and off-site, and providing job skills training essential for students' transition into the workforce. In addition to teaching, the instructor works collaboratively with Job Coaches and Teaching Assistants to develop Individual Vocational Plans and student portfolios that align with IEP goals, transition planning, and service delivery. The position requires a deep understanding of behavior management principles and crisis intervention techniques such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and EQ2 training to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
The successful candidate will utilize a Project-Based Learning model to develop and implement multi-part lessons, continuously monitoring student progress and adjusting teaching strategies accordingly. Engaging students in learning subject matter that includes vocational-specific vocabulary and employability skills will enable their intellectual and emotional growth. This comprehensive approach ensures that students not only gain valuable certifications but also are empowered to succeed beyond the classroom. Additionally, this position requires participation in multi-disciplinary teams to provide updates on student progress and collaborate with treatment teams, ensuring vocational education aligns with broader treatment and behavioral goals.
This role is eligible for a bonus of up to $5000 and offers competitive compensation that reflects a candidate’s experience and qualifications. The Home for Little Wanderers also provides an extensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and retirement plans with employer match, supporting employee well-being and professional growth. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual passionate about vocational education, special education, and making a tangible difference in the lives of youth facing emotional and academic challenges.
