Job Description
GovCIO is a leading provider of innovative IT solutions and services, specializing in supporting government agencies with mission-critical operations. With a strong focus on driving digital transformation and enhancing operational efficiencies, GovCIO partners with public sector organizations to deliver advanced technology services that enable better outcomes for citizens and stakeholders. The company is recognized for its expertise in federal IT modernization, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and enterprise system implementations, making it a trusted partner for government enterprises across the United States.
The current opportunity is for a VistA Transition Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Portfolio. This role is fully remote within the United States and involves a blend of technical expertise, project coordination, and strategic planning to facilitate the smooth transition of legacy VistA applications as part of the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program. The VistA Transition SME will be a senior technical resource responsible for analyzing, planning, coordinating, and executing activities related to transitioning VistA legacy systems to modern healthcare IT platforms.
The SME will work closely with various stakeholders including the Lead VistA Transition SME, Project Manager, Data Analysts, Technical SMEs, Technical Writers, government representatives, and site personnel to support site readiness assessments, transition planning, cutover execution, post-deployment validation, and ongoing operational monitoring. Serving as the primary technical liaison for assigned implementation sites, the SME will provide expert guidance on VistA applications, workflow optimization, user access management, and understanding the impacts of the transition on day-to-day operations.
As part of this role, the SME will analyze VistA applications, workflows, menus, HL7 interfaces, tasked jobs, security keys, and user access configurations to assess transition impacts. The professional will also utilize enterprise reporting tools, Grafana dashboards, and operational data to support data-driven decision making during transition planning. By developing comprehensive implementation playbooks, technical documentation, transition reports, and customer deliverables, the SME ensures clear communication and effective knowledge transfer throughout the project lifecycle.
Supporting site readiness and deployments, facilitating cutover events, and conducting post-implementation validation are critical aspects of the position, which requires periodic weekend support during EHRM deployment and cutover events. The SME is expected to continuously monitor system activity post-transition and recommend necessary adjustments or improvements based on usage data, operational findings, and customer feedback.
Quality assurance of technical documentation, peer deliverables, and program artifacts is essential for this role to uphold standards and support continuous process improvement initiatives. Presenting technical findings and recommendations to project leadership, stakeholders, and customer representatives is also a vital responsibility, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights.
This position offers a competitive salary range of USD $135,000 to $145,000 per year and operates within core business hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time, with flexibility for support during special events. A requirement to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust (Suitability) clearance is also part of the employment conditions due to the sensitive nature of the work environment involving federal healthcare IT systems.
