Job Description

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony is a distinguished tribal organization representing descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Washeshu (Washoe). These communities have a profound historical connection with the region, having lived in harmony with the land for generations prior to European contact. They followed seasonal cycles and formed small social groups oriented towards survival and sustainable living. Each group’s name translates to "The People" in their respective languages, reflecting a strong cultural identity deeply rooted in tradition and respect for the environment. Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these values by fostering community well-being, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting the future growth of its tribal members.

As an integral part of this community, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony offers a unique opportunity for individuals seeking to make a meaningful impact as a Full-Time Victim Services Coordinator. This onsite role, based in Reno, Nevada, provides an exceptional chance to serve those affected by crime through compassionate support and resource coordination. The position offers a competitive pay range of $25.10 to $30.87 per hour, rewarding dedication and commitment to community service. Employees benefit from a supportive work environment that emphasizes problem-solving, integrity, safety, customer focus, and the maintenance of tribal traditions.

The Victim Services Coordinator (VSC) acts as the essential contact point for victims of crime, ensuring they receive both emotional support and practical assistance. This role involves direct engagement with clients, assisting them in navigating the often complex aftermath of victimization. The VSC provides referrals to legal, medical, counseling, and social services, while also offering courtroom advocacy and helping with administrative filings such as Crime Victims Compensation claims. This position requires sensitivity, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills to help victims feel empowered and supported throughout their recovery journey.

The VSC is also responsible for raising awareness and educating the community about available victim services, reflecting the Colony’s commitment to fostering resilience and safety among its members. Coordination with various stakeholders in the criminal justice and social service systems—including county, state, tribal, and federal agencies—is integral to successfully delivering these services. The role includes organizing peer support groups, providing or facilitating community training, maintaining accurate records, and participating in community outreach events. This job is a vital component of the Colony’s Human Services department and plays a dynamic role in enhancing community wellness and justice.

Ideal candidates will bring a comprehensive understanding of counseling principles, social services, and victim advocacy, along with proficiency in office software such as MS Word and Excel. Experience in supervisory roles and knowledge of tribal court and family violence ordinances will enhance the ability to manage the program effectively. The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony values candidates who are organized, communicative, and committed to the principles of justice and cultural respect. The role not only offers professional development and a chance to work with a dedicated team but also provides a platform to make a lasting positive difference within a vibrant and culturally rich community.
