The Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician role at BluePearl Pet Hospital is a dynamic and critical position within the Internal Medicine department. This role functions as a bridge between internists and clients, facilitating communication about patient histories, care instructions, lab results, and updates. The technician's responsibilities extend to performing vital procedures such as assisting with endoscopic and ultrasound exams, taking x-rays, administering anesthesia, and obtaining lab samples. Strong skills in anesthesia and phlebotomy are essential for this role, highlighting the need for technical expertise and precision in handling complex veterinary cases.

This position involves close client interaction through phone, email, and face-to-face conversations, ensuring that pet owners receive clear and compassionate guidance regarding their pets' health. Additionally, the technician sets up constant rate infusions (CRI), calculates advanced medical dosages, and supports various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures intrinsic to internal medicine practice. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience as a Veterinary Technician
  • Strong anesthesia and phlebotomy skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform medical calculations accurately
  • Knowledge of endoscopic and ultrasound procedure assistance
  • Current authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician preferred
  • Experience in anesthesia and phlebotomy
  • Strong communication skills for client interaction
  • Ability to assist with endoscopic and ultrasound procedures
  • Knowledge of medical math calculations
  • Ability to educate clients on treatment and care protocols

Job Duties

  • Set up constant rate infusions (CRI)
  • Calculate all medical math including advanced and CRI (mcg/mg, %/mg, etc.)
  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia
  • Set up for ultrasound and radiology procedures
  • Set up and assist with endoscopic procedures (GI, nasal, urinary, airway), clean and maintain equipment following procedure
  • Discharge IM patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as insulin injection, SQ fluid, and feeding tube demonstrations
  • Complete additional job duties as assigned
