Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in customer service or a related field preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer proficiency including experience with multi-line phone systems
- Knowledge of veterinary terms preferred
- Availability to work urgent care shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Friendly, approachable demeanor
- Ability to handle financial transactions accurately and responsibly
- Strong organizational skills
- Compassionate attitude towards clients and pets
Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to MVP core values
- Computer knowledge required including keyboarding and use of communication tools such as e-mail and internet
- Working knowledge of veterinary terminology, including pronunciation, spelling, and meaning
- Excellent spelling and grammar skills
- Ability to handle varied and sometimes difficult conditions and exposure to highly emotional situations
- Ability to display tact and respect with clients and team members even in busy or hectic environments
- Ability to conduct oneself in a confident, calm, and professional manner when situations are stressful or focused on individual tasks
- Genuine liking for animals and their owners and enthusiasm for working in an animal care field
Job Duties
- Maintain and uphold the core values and mission statement of MVP
- Greet clients and pets by name with a smile and a positive, solution-oriented attitude
- Answer phones promptly and professionally using a multi-line phone system
- Screen and route calls to appropriate staff and take and deliver messages promptly
- Schedule appointments and surgeries according to hospital scheduling guidelines and make confirmation calls
- Note in medical records the details discussed during client conversations including date, time, key points, and any required information
- Enter accurate charges and explain invoices to show value for care provided, including stating all services and products before the total
- Collect payment when services are rendered, handle cash, credit cards, and checks with proper ID verification
- Verify eligibility of clients with charge accounts
- Check medical and computer records for accurate client information and scan new documents to medical records
- Fill prescriptions refill forms and provide routine administration instructions
- Advise clients on flea/tick preventatives, heartworm preventatives, pre-anesthetic testing, pain management, shampoos, home dental products, and other retail items
