BluePearl Pet Hospital is currently hiring a Veterinary Receptionist for their Tacoma location. This full-time position works primarily Sunday through Wednesday from 10 am to 8 pm, with some flexibility required due to the hospital's 24/7 operation. The pay for this role ranges from $21 to $30 per hour, depending on the candidate's experience and placement within the Kahuna leveling system.
The Veterinary Receptionist plays a critical role as the first point of contact for clients entering the hospital. They provide warm, professional greetings that set the tone for the visit and ensure a supportive and compassionate atmosphere for clients who often face distressing or emotional situations involving their pets. This role demands excellent customer service skills along with the ability to provide comfort and guidance to pet owners. Responsibilities include greeting clients with a friendly demeanor, assessing the urgency of pet arrivals, managing appointment confirmations, and offering emotional support to grieving clients. Additionally, the receptionist acts as a liaison between clients and service agencies for pet remains, ensuring that all procedures are handled with compassion and professionalism.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous customer service experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle stressful and emotional situations with compassion
- Basic computer proficiency
- Availability to work Sunday through Wednesday 10 am to 8 pm with scheduling flexibility
- Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring future employment-based sponsorship
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in customer service or a related field preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with clients
- Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor
- Comfortable working in emotionally charged situations
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with appointment scheduling systems
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
Job Duties
- Greet and make friendly eye contact every time the hospital door opens to offer warm and professional acknowledgement
- Offer a friendly smile, strong eye contact and an approachable demeanor
- Be a compassionate listener
- Speak clearly, slowly, and calmly in person and on the telephone so clients easily understand
- Assess each client’s need and pet’s general condition upon arrival
- Determine whether an emergency arrival is a "stat" or "standard" emergency
- Respond to non-patient calls or visitors and connect them to the appropriate team member
- Confirm all appointments in advance ensuring clients receive accurate information about preparing their pet
- Offer emotional support and resource materials to grieving clients discreetly
- Serve as a liaison between clients and service agencies during handling of pet remains ensuring a complete, accurate, and compassionate process
