Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience using practice information management software such as PIMS and Avimark preferred
  • excellent client service and communication skills
  • ability to multi-task effectively
  • proficiency with computers and multi-line phone systems
  • ability to handle payment and financial transactions accurately
  • availability to work full-time with weekend shifts
  • ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
  • flexibility to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • computer knowledge including keyboarding and use of communication tools such as email and internet
  • working knowledge of veterinary terminology including pronunciation, spelling, and meaning
  • excellent spelling and grammar
  • ability to handle varied and sometimes difficult conditions including emotional situations
  • ability to display tact and respect with clients and team members even in busy or hectic times
  • ability to conduct oneself in a confident, calm, and professional manner in stressful situations or when focused on tasks
  • genuine liking for animals, their owners, and working in an animal care field

Job Duties

  • Maintain and uphold the core values and mission statement of MVP
  • greet clients and pets by name with a smile and positive, solution-oriented attitude
  • answer phones promptly and professionally using a multi-line phone system
  • provide knowledgeable advice about wellness, prevention, and diseases
  • screen and route calls to appropriate staff and take and deliver messages promptly
  • schedule appointments and surgeries according to hospital guidelines and make confirmation calls
  • enter accurate charges and explain invoices showing value for care provided
  • collect payment when services are rendered including cash, credit cards, and checks
  • verify eligibility of clients with charge accounts
  • update medical and computer records with accurate client information
  • fill prescription refill forms and provide routine administration instructions to clients
  • advise clients on flea/tick preventatives, heartworm preventatives, and other retail items
