Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is a leading pet specialty retailer dedicated to improving the lives of pets and pet parents across the United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. With a proud history spanning over 60 years, Petco has established itself as a trusted source where pets go to find everything they need to live their best lives—from nutritious food and engaging toys to trusted supplies and expert care from passionate professionals who truly understand the needs of pets and their owners. Petco’s expansive network includes more than 1,500 stores, over 250 Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals, numerous preventive care clinics, and eight distribution centers. The company’s commitment extends beyond retail, as evidenced by founding Petco Love in 1999, a philanthropic initiative supporting local animal welfare groups and facilitating the adoption of approximately 7 million animals through in-store events.

Petco’s core values are built around putting pets first, fostering fun, and championing authenticity and teamwork. These values guide every interaction within the company and shape the exceptional customer and patient experiences Petco strives to deliver. The company encourages authenticity, compassion, and a team-oriented approach, ensuring that both pets and their owners receive the best care possible.

The Concierge position at Petco’s Vetco Total Care hospital is a vital role that serves as both the welcoming face and communication hub for clients seeking veterinary services. This role centers on delivering exceptional customer service, managing the hospital’s appointment scheduling system, and maintaining smooth daily operations within the hospital. The Concierge is typically the first and last person a client encounters during their visit, making this role integral to shaping positive impressions and fostering client satisfaction.

The Concierge’s duties involve answering practice phone calls, scheduling and confirming appointments, greeting clients and their pets, monitoring wait times, and aiding staff with operational tasks such as managing patient flow and maintaining the waiting area’s cleanliness and comfort. This role also supports new staff training and contributes to seamless hospital workflow by coordinating between clients, patients, and medical staff.

Given the nature of veterinary services, the Concierge must be adaptable, compassionate, and resilient, capable of managing emotionally charged situations with professionalism and empathy. This position requires excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to navigate complex scheduling and client needs efficiently. A strong team player mentality is essential, as the Concierge works closely with hospital management and medical teams to uphold Petco’s standards of care and customer experience.

The role demands a high school diploma and at least one year of experience in a veterinary practice or a customer-facing role, with strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with Practice Management Systems is preferred but not mandatory. This position can involve physical activities such as bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for extended periods, reflecting the hands-on nature of the work environment within a veterinary hospital.

Petco offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $15.00 to $19.00, depending on experience and location, with benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, paid time off, 401K, and various incentive programs. This role represents an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about pets and customer service to make a tangible difference in the lives of animals and their owners while growing their career within a supportive and values-driven company.
