The role offered at Animal Clinic of Woodland Park is that of a Veterinary Assistant, a critical position that supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering top-notch animal care. The veterinary assistant is responsible for a variety of tasks that maintain hospital hygiene and operational efficiency, including cleaning and sterilizing equipment, assisting with multiple clinical procedures such as x-rays, ultrasounds, and surgeries, stocking medical supplies, and caring for the cleanliness of kennels. This role requires excellent animal handling skills and clinical knowledge to competently assist with animal restraint, blood draws, nail trims, health exams, anesthetic procedures, and the administration of vaccinations and injectable medications.

Job Requirements

  • Availability to occasionally work uncommon hours and overtime and to be recalled in emergency situations
  • excellent animal-handling skills including the confidence and dexterity to administer medications
  • ability to properly restrain patients
  • demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion
  • ability to lift objects weighing 50 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance
  • preferred one year or more of experience in a veterinary hospital

Job Duties

  • Understands and applies hospital policies and procedures
  • maintaining the hospital standard of cleanliness
  • removes trash, sweeps, and mops daily
  • assisting in the set-up of multiple procedures including xray, ultrasound and surgical procedures
  • stocking medical supplies
  • cleaning of kennels
  • properly washing and sterilizing surgical equipment
  • hospital laundry
  • assists veterinarians and technicians with blood draws, nail trims, health exams, anesthetic procedures, administering vaccinations and/or injectable medications
  • adheres to all hospital policies, standards, and procedures
  • serves as a representative of the hospital displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and a positive attitude
  • demonstrates initiative in everyday duties by seeking other work during down times, assisting other employees and filling in as needed
  • adheres to the posted work schedule and arrives promptly
  • utilizes the time clock to clock in and out
  • organizes work area and exercises time-management skills to maximize personal efficiency
  • prioritizes tasks and handles multiple tasks in a calm, organized manner
  • performs occasional property maintenance such as snow shoveling, lawn mowing, trash and fecal matter disposal, and bird feeder upkeep
