Job Description

Bellingham Technical College (BTC) is a dynamic educational institution committed to providing high-quality, career-focused training and education pathways. BTC serves a diverse student population, including veterans, youth, dislocated workers, and first-generation students, through innovative programs and comprehensive support services. The college prides itself on creating an inclusive, supportive environment that fosters student success from enrollment through completion. As a leader in technical education, BTC is dedicated to helping students unlock the funding they need to pursue and achieve their academic and career aspirations, reflecting its mission to empower learners through education and community engagement.

The role of Veterans School Certifying Official and Funding Navigator at BTC is a vital position dedicated to guiding students, especially veterans and those eligible for the Passport to Careers program, in navigating complex financial aid and specialized funding programs. This position provides direct support that impacts student access, persistence, and successful completion of their academic goals. The Funding Navigator serves as the lead contact for emergency funding and is responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to various financial aid programs.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Financial Resources, the Funding Navigator collaboratively works with the Student Financial Resources team to provide expert financial advising and support. Key responsibilities include enrolling and maintaining certification as a Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) School Certifying Official, managing military education benefits, and overseeing related paperwork and compliance reporting crucial for federal and state audits. Additionally, the role champions an accessible and welcoming Veteran Lounge, creating a supportive space for veteran students.

Other important duties include serving as the Designated Support Staff for students in the Passport to Careers program and administering emergency assistance programs such as Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness (SSEH) and the Student Emergency Assistance Grant (SEAG). The position also involves developing individualized funding plans tailored to students' academic paths to enhance retention and completion outcomes, especially for traditionally underserved populations.

Candidates should expect to apply their strong organizational skills and attention to detail while using software tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and student tracking systems. The position requires a professional who thrives in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, possesses excellent customer service skills, and exercises sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive student and institutional information.

Compensation for this role is $5528 per month, with a standard work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., located onsite. Benefits include a comprehensive Washington State insurance package with multiple medical, dental, and vision options, as well as retirement plans and various additional voluntary benefits. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated individual passionate about helping diverse learners secure financial pathways for education and career advancement, while maintaining high standards of regulatory compliance and institutional support.
