Job Description

The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation is a community with a rich history that dates back many centuries. Originally, the Kumeyaay people lived as a unified tribe, thriving by farming, hunting, and fishing to sustain their livelihoods. Today, the Sycuan Tribe is a vibrant and thriving community that governs its Reservation and is a prominent economic force in the San Diego region. The Tribe owns and operates several enterprises including a state-of-the-art Casino and a beautiful Golf Resort. Alongside these, Sycuan manages various other business ventures that contribute to the economic vitality and cultural preservation of the tribe and its members.

Beyond its business successes, Sycuan embodies a deep sense of community that remains unchanged through the years. The organization considers itself more than just a collection of businesses—it is a family of dedicated people working together towards common goals. Whether employed in the Casino, the Resort, or within the Tribal Government division, every staff member is valued as part of the Sycuan family.

The role being offered is that of a Food Runner, a vital position within the hospitality operations at Sycuan. Employed on an hourly basis, this role demands promptness, accuracy, and excellent guest service skills. The Food Runner acts as an essential link between the Back of the House (kitchen staff) and the Front of the House (guest-facing staff), ensuring food orders from the kitchen are delivered quickly and correctly to guests. This position plays a critical role in providing a seamless dining experience, contributing directly to guest satisfaction and the smooth operation of dining services.

The Food Runner must maintain cleanliness and order in kitchen stations and assist both the kitchen and service staff as needed. Responsibilities include ensuring that assigned kitchen areas are well-stocked and meet safety and sanitation standards. This position requires the ability to handle physical tasks such as carrying large serving trays and lifting up to 50 pounds routinely, along with being able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, and pull for extended periods.

Strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to accept constructive criticism are important for success in this role. The capability to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, is essential. Furthermore, holding a valid County of San Diego Food Handler Card and being at least 18 years of age are mandatory requirements.

Candidates with bussing experience and a background in guest service or hospitality are encouraged to apply. Being multilingual is considered an asset but not a strict requirement. Overall, this role offers an exciting opportunity to join a supportive, community-oriented environment dedicated to delivering memorable guest experiences. If you take pride in working collaboratively and value being part of a team committed to excellence, the Food Runner position at Sycuan is an excellent career choice.
