Job Description

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a global religious organization dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and providing service to its members and the community. With a rich history rooted in faith and devotion, the Church offers various employment opportunities that allow individuals to contribute their unique talents and skills toward a higher purpose. The Church operates numerous facilities, including temples, meetinghouses, and offices, all aimed at supporting its mission to bring souls unto Christ through worship, teaching, and service.

One essential area of support within the Church’s operations is its cafeteria and vending services. Cafeteria employees play a crucial role in helping Church employees and temple patrons focus on their most important spiritual and administrative work by providing reliable, simple, and affordable food services. This position ensures that vending machines situated across various Church-owned locations are consistently maintained, cleaned, filled, and restocked with a variety of items such as beverages and snacks. Employees in this role perform their duties with attention to detail, aligning with the Church’s standards and procedures.

The cafeteria employee’s responsibilities go beyond just replenishing vending machines. The role involves handling considerable cash and inventory, requiring the employee to perform daily cash balancing and inventory checks to ensure accuracy and accountability. Physical stamina is an important aspect of this job because employees must move items stored on shelves ranging from 2 to 6 feet in height. Additionally, lifting up to 50 pounds independently and managing loads up to 1000 pounds with assistance is often necessary. The job also requires basic mechanical skills for performing minor repairs and maintenance on vending machines, ensuring that equipment remains in good working condition.

Mobility is another key component of the role, as employees must drive a company van to various locations within the Salt Lake Valley to service the vending machines. The position requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience in vending is beneficial but not mandatory, as training and supervision are provided to ensure high standards of service. The Church offers an environment where employees find joy and satisfaction in using their talents to support a greater mission, fostering a workplace culture centered on faith, respect, and service.

Employment with the Church is unique in that it requires applicants to be members in good standing, including holding a temple recommend, which reflects an individual’s commitment and worthiness within the faith. The Church is committed to equal employment opportunities and adheres strictly to non-discrimination policies in compliance with U.S. and local employment laws. It is dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities to ensure an inclusive work environment. This role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the Church’s mission while performing practical, hands-on work that supports the daily needs of employees and members alike.
