Job Description
The Space Needle is an iconic Seattle landmark, symbolizing the innovative and forward-thinking spirit of the city. This world-renowned observation tower offers not only breathtaking views but also a unique customer experience, making it a prime tourist destination. Operated by a dedicated team of professionals, the Space Needle prides itself on providing exceptional service to visitors from around the globe. As a prominent establishment in the hospitality and tourism industry, the organization values diversity and inclusivity, ensuring all team members and applicants are treated fairly regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, military status, political ideology, genetic information, or any other protected status by law. Employment decisions are thoroughly based on qualifications, such as training, education, skills, aptitude, experience, and previous work records, reinforcing its commitment to equal opportunity employment.
This listing is for a full-time, union-represented Valet position with an hourly wage of $22.30, plus tips. The role revolves around delivering professional valet services, which includes cashiering, receiving, parking, and returning guests' vehicles with a focus on safety, timeliness, and a friendly demeanor. Valets are expected to adhere strictly to safe driving practices, obey traffic laws, and follow garage policies to maintain high safety standards. In addition to these duties, Valets serve as ambassadors of the Space Needle experience by greeting guests, providing information about the valet service, and offering accurate and helpful directions and details about the Seattle Center Campus, the Space Needle itself, and other local attractions.
The position demands a strong ability to multitask, excellent customer service skills, and the capacity to independently prioritize and solve problems even under challenging conditions. An ideal candidate would bring a substantial guest service background, preferably in busy, fast-paced environments, and a commitment to delivering world-class service. While previous valet experience is helpful, it is not a strict requirement, indicating that motivated individuals with a solid service ethos could thrive in this role.
Physically, the job requires standing, walking, and running, including the ability to use stairs, throughout an entire shift that typically lasts around eight hours. Candidates must also be able to perform under various weather conditions, from extreme heat to cold and wet climates, while maintaining sharp vision including close vision, distance vision, and focus adjustment.
In terms of benefits, the Space Needle offers comprehensive coverage including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long-term disability. Financial benefits include pension plans and self-funded 401k options. Employees also enjoy paid holidays (five days annually), paid vacation and sick leave, tuition reimbursement up to $2,500 per year covering 50% of educational expenses, and a 25% discount on many Space Needle purchases excluding alcohol. Other perks include charitable contribution matching up to $200 annually and a $50 monthly allowance toward Orca card or parking expenses.
The Space Needle is not only a cultural and architectural landmark but also a community-minded employer dedicated to supporting its team members with fair wages, comprehensive benefits, and a respectful and inclusive working environment. If you are passionate about guest service and looking to be part of a storied brand representing Seattle’s welcoming spirit, this valet position offers a rewarding career opportunity within a vibrant tourist destination.
