As a Utility Worker at Sodexo, based at the University of Southern Indiana, you will play a vital role in supporting kitchen and facility operations to ensure smooth and sanitary food production and service environments. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $16 to $16.50, with varying shifts including days and flexible hours. This role is ideal for individuals who are reliable, detail-oriented, and have a strong work ethic even in physically demanding tasks.

The Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation by washing dishes, cleaning equipment and workspaces, sweeping and mopping floors, and restocking supplies. You will handle trash removal, assist with set-up and break-down tasks, and ensure compliance with sanitation standards using appropriate cleaning chemicals. The position requires significant physical activity including walking, standing for extended periods, bending, lifting up to 35 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Your contribution directly supports food safety and operational efficiency, beneficial both for customers and the larger community served by the university.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma, ged, or equivalent experience
  • no related work experience required
  • knowledge of sanitation procedures, to include basic concepts of food safety

Job Duties

  • washes dishes by hand or places them in a dishwashing machine
  • clean and sanitize worktables, walls, refrigerators and meat blocks
  • sweeps, mops, cleans and vacuums floors
  • removes trash and garbage to designated areas
  • cleans equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitary standards
  • re-stock supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning materials
  • attends work and shows for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
