Job Description

Sodexo is a global leader in providing integrated facilities management and food services, committed to improving the quality of life for those it serves while contributing to economic, social, and environmental progress in the communities where it operates. Known for delivering exceptional client and customer experiences, Sodexo partners with organizations across various industries to offer customized solutions in food service, catering, and facilities management. Their inclusive company culture values diversity, fairness, and respect, fostering an environment where every employee feels welcomed and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives. Sodexo is dedicated to creating better everyday experiences for customers and employees alike, emphasizing career development, work-life balance, and comprehensive benefits.

The Utility Worker position at Sodexo is a full-time role based at the Alaska Airlines Lounge in Portland (PDX). This role plays a vital support function within kitchen and facility operations, focusing primarily on maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization across food production and service areas. With a pay rate of $20 per hour, the position offers varying shifts, and open availability is preferred to meet dynamic scheduling demands. This job is essential to ensuring a hygienic and well-organized work environment that upholds Sodexo's high standards for safety and food quality.

As a Utility Worker, you will be responsible for washing dishes either by hand or using dishwashing machines, cleaning and sanitizing worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks, along with sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and managing waste removal. You will also be tasked with cleaning equipment using specific chemicals to maintain sanitary standards, restocking cleaning and hygiene supplies, and assisting with the setup and breakdown of work areas as directed. This role requires significant physical activity, including walking, standing for extended periods, reaching, bending, stooping, and lifting items up to 35 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

This position does not require related prior work experience but does call for a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience and a foundational knowledge of sanitation procedures, including basic food safety concepts. The role demands reliability, punctuality, and the ability to fulfill assigned duties consistently during scheduled shifts. Sodexo offers a supportive and flexible work environment that accommodates employees' personal lives while providing access to ongoing training and development opportunities to help turn this job into a long-term career.

Additionally, the company offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, holidays, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, 401k options, employee discount programs, and more. Some locations may provide site-specific perks such as shift meals, allowances, uniforms, safety shoes, and transportation support. Sodexo values open communication about benefits and encourages candidates to discuss any questions regarding benefit offerings during the interview process.

Working at Sodexo means joining an organization that prioritizes inclusivity and equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, disability, or any other protected characteristic. The company champions creating a culture of belonging where employees are treated with respect and their ideas and opinions are valued. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to join a reputable company that emphasizes purpose, growth, and community impact while contributing to a cleaner and safer food service environment at the Alaska Airlines Lounge.
