The Utility Worker position at Sodexo, located at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg, is a part-time role paying $15.00 per hour. This role is vital in supporting kitchen and facility operations by ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and organization throughout the food production and service areas. Utility Workers play a crucial part in maintaining a safe and efficient food environment by cleaning equipment, utensils, floors, walls, and storage spaces. They are also responsible for transporting and storing supplies, assisting with set-up and break-down tasks, and other duties as directed by management.

This position requires flexibility as shifts include mornings, afternoons, evenings, varying days, and some weekends and holidays. The job involves significant physical activity, including walking or standing for extended periods, lifting up to 35 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 50 pounds, and performing various movements such as reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. The role is well-suited for individuals who take pride in maintaining cleanliness and organization while contributing to a larger team effort.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • no related work experience required
  • knowledge of sanitation procedures, to include basic concepts of food safety
  • ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time, throughout the entire duration of a shift, which may exceed 8 hours
  • ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds
  • attends work and shows for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Washes dishes by hand or places them in a dishwashing machine
  • cleans and sanitizes worktables, walls, refrigerators and meat blocks
  • sweeps, mops, cleans and vacuums floors
  • removes trash and garbage to designated areas
  • cleans equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitary standards
  • re-stocks supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning materials
  • assists with basic set-up and break-down tasks as directed
