The role of Equipment Fleet Manager is integral to the smooth functioning of the Construction and Right-of-Way (ROW) departments. This position requires managing and directing the department-owned equipment fleet and rental equipment, overseeing vehicle-related programs, and assisting in the procurement and disposal of vehicles. The Equipment Fleet Manager ensures that all machinery, such as trucks, bucket trucks, digger trucks, chippers, and mulchers, are well maintained and ready for use in the field. This role is essential in promoting high equipment reliability and operational efficiency, which directly supports the field crews and overall operations.
The Equipment Fleet Manager coordinates routine maintenance, schedules the transport of spare equipment to job sites, and supervises mechanics responsible for preventive maintenance, repair, logistics management, and fabrication. Managing equipment rentals and ensuring compliance with rental agreements are also critical parts of the job. The position involves procuring parts and supplies, providing budget recommendations for fleet operations, and liaising with dealers and vendors to secure new equipment and vehicles.
This role demands strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle stressful situations and collaborate effectively with others. Due to the necessity of providing continuous and reliable electric service, the Equipment Fleet Manager must maintain regular and punctual attendance and be available outside of normal office hours when needed. Additionally, maintaining compliance with various laws, regulations, and internal policies is paramount to ensure operational integrity and safety.
The role requires familiarity with OSHA safety regulations, the National Electric Safety Code, and other relevant safety and labor regulations. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, production management, business administration or related field
- at least 8 years related experience including 5 years management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- valid driver's license
- forklift operator certification
- crane operator certification
- DOT inspection certification including air brakes
- ability to handle stress and work well with others
- availability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and work outside regularly scheduled hours
- legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
- must be on-call 24 hours a day in emergencies
- ability to travel throughout Construction/ROW service area and stay overnight
- general mechanical knowledge of vehicles
- working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, National Electric Safety Code, and other safety and labor regulations
- compliance with Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act as a designated safety-sensitive position
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, production management, business administration or related field
- at least 8 years of related experience including 5 years of management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- valid driver's license
- forklift operator certification
- crane operator certification
- DOT inspection certification including air brakes
- CDL Class A license preferred
- CPR and first aid training preferred
- general mechanical knowledge of vehicles used in Construction/ROW department
- working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, National Electric Safety Code, state and local labor regulations
Job Duties
- Oversees maintenance of construction and ROW machinery and equipment including trucks, bucket trucks, digger trucks, chippers, mulchers
- schedules and directs routine maintenance of equipment
- coordinates and schedules the transport of spare equipment to job sites as needed
- establishes and executes equipment maintenance program to deliver high equipment reliability
- advises management on remaining life of equipment and adequate spare equipment to support operations
- supervises mechanics to maintain reliability of field equipment including preventive maintenance and repair, logistics management, fabrication, yard/warehouse operations
- manages equipment rentals to provide crews with needed equipment and ensures timely returns and compliance with agreements
- procures parts and supplies related to shop operations and provides budget recommendations
- coordinates with authorized dealers, vendors, contractors to secure equipment and vehicles
- monitors warranty usage for fleet and arranges repair work according to warranty guidelines and recalls
- handles stress well and works effectively with others
- maintains regular punctual attendance and works outside scheduled hours as necessary
- ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and directives
