The role in focus is a Housekeeping position dedicated to maintaining the impeccable physical appearance of the hotel’s guest rooms, corridors, foyers, and storerooms. This role is integral to ensuring that guests experience a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment throughout their stay. The housekeeping team is responsible for executing duties using various equipment, materials, and techniques to meet the high standards established by management. Core responsibilities include the removal and compaction of trash from hotel floors, organizing and cleaning supply areas, conducting inventories, and delivering or stocking supplies as required. This position demands attention to detail, a proactive approach to maintenance, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and guests.

Workers in this role must be capable of managing physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and handling supplies to maintain par levels for operation. They also play an important part in guest satisfaction by responding to inquiries and providing assistance within hotel guidelines, contributing to the overall positive guest experience. With a commitment to safety, employees are trained to understand product labeling, instructions, and safety notices to ensure proper application of cleaning materials and adherence to standards. The position requires basic mathematical skills for inventory and report verification, and strong communication skills in English for both written and verbal interactions with guests, supervisors, and colleagues.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in housekeeping or custodial work preferred
  • ability to comprehend verbal and written English
  • physical capability to handle duties including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Job Qualifications

  • ability to comprehend verbal English sufficient to understand job requests from supervisor, guests and co-workers
  • basic mathematical skills necessary to verify/balance reports, perform simple calculations and conduct inventories
  • ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. by hand
  • ability to maintain attendance in conformance with standards
  • ability to maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance
  • ability to grasp, bend, lift and/or carry, or otherwise move goods weighing a maximum of 300 lbs. on an intermittent basis and sufficient dexterity of hand in order to use pen/paper, mop/buckets, broom/dust pan, scrapers, spray bottles and scrub brush
  • ability to stand, move, and work throughout office area including walking (up to 2 miles, intermittently), climbing stairs/ladders, and riding elevators, for the duration of the shift
  • ability to listen effectively, read, write, speak and understand the English language clearly to ascertain and document important information, to follow written and/or verbal instructions and to communicate with other employees, management and external contacts

Job Duties

  • conduct inventory of supply room
  • write up orders to maintain supplies at par levels for operation
  • receive and transport supplies from the receiving dock and deliver/stock supply rooms
  • sweep and mop supply room to ensure cleanliness
  • transport all trash from guestroom floors and trash disposal rooms to the compactor area
  • clean and sanitize disposal rooms and compactor area
  • maintain/clean the equipment necessary to perform duty
  • remove/replace and store furnishings for guestrooms, foyers, storerooms and corridors as directed
  • communicate in written format the status of work performed including descriptions, dates and times of such work completion
  • respond to guest inquiries
  • provide guest satisfaction through assistance, direction and information within hotel guidelines
  • attend meetings as directed to gather/obtain/communicate information about guest services/requests or job performance
