Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor serving a diverse array of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Known for its commitment to quality and fostering strong relationships, the company combines a team of expert sales representatives, chefs, and consultants to support customers not only with food products but also with operational advice, menu development, and product selection strategies. Performance Foodservice stands out in the food distribution industry by delivering exceptional service and contributing significantly to the success of independent restaurant owners and other clients across the nation.
The role of Food and Food Service Delivery Driver within Performance Foodservice is essential to maintaining the country’s food supply chain. This position involves delivering customers' products punctually and in excellent condition, while representing the face of the company. Working Monday through Friday with rotating Saturdays, and dispatch times starting as early as 4 am, this role offers a competitive hourly wage of $39.13 along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health and wellness coverage from day one, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Drivers are vital to ensuring routes are covered and that deliveries are safely and efficiently completed.
Delivery drivers are required to conduct thorough safety inspections on their vehicles and trailers in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring vehicles meet company safety standards and addressing any safety concerns promptly. They must follow all DOT rules, maintain accurate records for hours of service, and uphold strict safety and freight handling protocols throughout the delivery process. Drivers also assist in training newer drivers when necessary and are involved with verifying freight loads, securing cargo, and handling any damaged goods appropriately. This role demands strong attention to detail, adherence to safety, and excellent communication skills to build and maintain positive relationships with customers.
To qualify for this position, candidates must hold a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), have at least one year of commercial driving experience, and satisfy all state licensing and certification requirements. They must be at least 21 years old and meet specific Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) standards set by PFG. Passing a drug test, road test, and FMCSA Clearinghouse requirements are mandatory, alongside the ability to obtain a new DOT Medical Card. Physical fitness is necessary since drivers frequently maneuver heavy freight, sometimes weighing between 60 to 90 pounds, and utilize equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates throughout their shifts. The job requires basic typing and computer skills and the capacity to work the assigned schedule, supporting a flexible and inclusive workplace culture that values reward, recognition, and respect.
Performance Foodservice offers a safe, inclusive work environment and is committed to equal employment opportunities for all individuals regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, and other protected characteristics under applicable local, state, and federal laws. This role is a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about logistics, customer service, and playing a key part in delivering essential goods within America’s food distribution system while enjoying significant growth opportunities and competitive benefits.
