The role of Utility Team Member - Dishwasher at CCS Taubman Cafe is a full-time position with an hourly wage of $18.00, offering a fantastic opportunity for individuals eager to begin or further their careers in the restaurant industry. As a Utility Team Member, you will be responsible for collecting used dishes, plates, and utensils from dining and kitchen spaces and operating dishwashing machines to clean and sanitize all kitchenware. The job requires careful handling of delicate items such as wooden cutting boards, large pots, and fine china, which are washed by hand to ensure their preservation. Moreover, you will be tasked with stacking and storing the cleaned items properly to maintain order and readiness for service. By ensuring an adequate supply of clean dishes and utensils during peak hours, you play a crucial role in supporting the kitchen staff and maintaining the cafe's service flow.

Beyond dishwashing duties, the role includes maintaining overall cleanliness in the cafe, both indoors and outdoors. This involves tasks such as collecting garbage regularly, sweeping and mopping floors, and sanitizing kitchen surfaces including walls, doors, and handles to comply with health and safety standards. You will also manage the inventory of cleaning supplies, ensuring stocks of detergents and other materials are sufficient, and promptly informing supervisors of any issues.

This position requires the ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends, accommodating the dynamic nature of the restaurant industry. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in dishwashing or kitchen utility work preferred
  • ability to stand for extended periods

Job Duties

  • Collect used kitchenware from dining and kitchen areas
  • load and unload dishwashing machines
  • wash specific items by hand e.g. wooden cutting boards, large pots and delicate china
  • store clean pots, pans, dishes, glasses and equipment appropriately
  • ensure there are always enough clean pots, pans, dishes, glasses and utensils, especially during peak hours
  • maintain cleaning supplies stock e.g. detergents and notify supervisor when necessary
  • check washing machines’ operation and promptly report any technical or performance issues
  • remove garbage regularly
  • sanitize the kitchen area, including the floor, walls, doors and handles
