The Utility Associate position is a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of kitchen, dining, and serving areas within a university setting. This part-time role supports the day-to-day operations by ensuring that all service ware, pots, pans, and utensils are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored to meet health and safety standards. The university, recognized for its commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for students and staff, relies on this position to help uphold its high-quality service standards and maintain a pleasant dining experience.

This role is designated as essential personnel, emphasizing the importance of availability during inclement weather and emergency situations to ensure continuous operation of food service and cleaning functions. The Utility Associate is expected to work Monday through Thursday from 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm during the nine-month academic calendar, from August through May. The position is non-exempt and part-time, with a pay grade 1 salary range of $16.50 to $18.00 per hour. Although this position is not benefit eligible, it offers valuable experience in custodial and kitchen sanitation, suitable for individuals pursuing growth in food service, custodial work, or team-based operational roles.

The job requires significant physical effort, including long periods of standing and walking, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds in varying environmental conditions such as hot, humid, or cold settings. The job can occasionally require working outdoors and involves safe operation of typical kitchen tools and equipment. Notably, youth aged 16 and 17 are restricted from operating or handling hazardous machinery, emphasizing the safety-focused culture of the workplace.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of safe ware-washing techniques and chemical handling, effective time management skills, and the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately. Flexibility and the capacity to work calmly under pressure are essential, especially in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Customer service skills and the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team will contribute to success in this role. Furthermore, the position entails monitoring and maintaining quality control standards to ensure consistent cleanliness and organization.

Candidates seeking this role must have at least a high school diploma or be actively pursuing one, with the requirement to complete it within two years of hire. Prior custodial experience is desirable but not mandatory, allowing for candidates with varied backgrounds to apply and learn on the job.

Overall, this part-time Utility Associate role contributes significantly to the operational excellence of the university's food service areas.
