The role in focus is for a Utility Associate at the Chicago Airport Food & Beverage location, a crucial position responsible for maintaining cleanliness and supporting food service operations to ensure excellent sanitary standards. The position is non-exempt with an hourly wage ranging from $17.50 to $25.70. The Utility Associate's primary duties include cleaning equipment such as work tables, refrigerators, meat blocks, and other kitchen tools, as well as washing utensils, pots, and pans either by hand or using dishwashing machines. These tasks are critical in maintaining hygiene and operational efficiency in a fast-paced airport environment where food safety standards are paramount.
Additional responsibilities include removing trash and garbage to designated disposal areas, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and buffing floors using heavy equipment, cleaning walls, windows, and trash cans using steam cleaning methods, and stocking, dating, rotating, and checking the temperature of products to maintain quality control. The Utility Associate also supports inventory management by transferring supplies and equipment between storage and work areas, loading and unloading supply trucks, and ensuring that ice levels, keg beers, bib sodas, and CO2 containers are checked and replaced when necessary. This role demands attention to detail, physical endurance, and commitment to safety and security procedures established by HMSHost.
The successful candidate for this role will possess the ability to bend, twist, stand for extended periods, and lift or move items up to 40 pounds, which underscores the physical nature of the position. The Utility Associate must also have strong communication skills to read, comprehend instructions, and interact enthusiastically with coworkers and the public. This position requires frequent immersion of hands in water and water diluted with chemical solutions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness and sanitation. Working at HMSHost means joining not only a company but a family dedicated to helping travelers feel good on the move and ensuring a positive experience for all who pass through the airport's food and beverage venues.
