Job Description
Sam's Club, a leading membership-only retail warehouse club, operates numerous locations across the United States. Known for providing quality products to its members at exceptional value, Sam's Club emphasizes not only savings but also excellent customer service and operational excellence. As a subsidiary of Walmart Inc., Sam's Club leverages its vast resources and expertise to offer a wide variety of merchandise including groceries, bakery items, electronics, and household goods. The company fosters a workplace culture that embraces diversity, integrity, and continuous learning, making it a preferred employer in the retail sector.
The Bakery Department Lead at Sam's Club plays a crucial role in driving sales and ensuring operational success within the bakery section of the club. This is a full-time, supervisory position with an hourly wage range of $23.00 to $31.00, supplemented by various premiums depending on scheduling and workload. The individual in this role supervises a team of hourly associates, guiding them to deliver high-quality bakery products and customer service to members. The lead models bakery expertise and works collaboratively with other department leaders to meet and exceed member expectations across the entire store.
In this role, the Bakery Department Lead is responsible for maintaining an in-depth knowledge of bakery production, backroom operations, product specifications, and seasonal trends. Operational excellence is a core focus, including ensuring adherence to food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and compliance with company policies. The lead utilizes digital tools and handheld technology to make real-time business decisions, enhancing sales performance, and improving associate engagement. Moreover, they act as a talent ambassador by identifying training needs, developing team skills, and promoting career growth within the bakery department.
Operationally, the lead is accountable for planning and staffing, maintaining inventory accuracy, driving quality and consistency in products, and ensuring a safe, neat, and organized work environment. Their leadership extends to fostering a culture that respects individual differences, builds strong team relationships, encourages integrity, and drives service excellence with members as the priority. This position entails active participation in process improvement efforts and compliance with ethical standards, supporting Walmart’s goal of becoming a regenerative company that positively impacts associates, members, and communities.
Sam's Club offers comprehensive benefits including health plans covering medical, vision, and dental; financial benefits such as 401(k), stock purchase, and life insurance; and paid time off encompassing vacation, parental leave, and voting leave among others. Additional benefits include short-term and long-term disability, company discounts, military leave pay, and adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursements. Full-time and part-time associates can also access Live Better U, a company-paid education benefit program that covers tuition, books, and fees for various academic and certificate programs.
This position requires candidates to be at least 18 years old and to successfully complete all job-required trainings and assessments. Preferred qualifications include bakery production experience, supervisory experience, and food handler certification, though the minimum requirement is six months in a bakery production environment or supervisory role. Working at this Walmart subsidiary means committing to a drug-free workplace policy aimed at maintaining a safe and productive environment for all employees and members.
