Job Description

Ad Astra is a renowned woman-owned small business specializing in delivering comprehensive language services that facilitate communication across diverse cultures and languages. With a professional team fluent in over 250 languages, including spoken, signed, and written forms, Ad Astra is committed to helping businesses and organizations effectively connect with their customers worldwide. The company has earned a solid reputation for providing high-quality, reliable, and culturally competent language interpretation and translation services. Serving clients both nationally and internationally, Ad Astra leverages its vast linguistic expertise to break down communication barriers and promote inclusivity in various sectors.

Currently, Ad Astra is expanding its network of U.S.-based Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) focused on Mixteco language interpretation to support critical federal projects for the IRS and USCIS. This role is exclusively available to candidates based in the United States who are either U.S. citizens or Green Card holders, in compliance with federal project requirements. The position is freelance and contract-based, offering the flexibility to work fully remotely with a schedule tailored to the interpreter's availability. While rates are discussed during the recruitment process, this role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects impacting public service and government communication.

As an Over-the-Phone Interpreter specializing in Mixteco, your primary responsibility will be to provide accurate and professional interpretation services via telephone. This essential function supports communication between limited-English-proficient individuals and federal agencies including the Internal Revenue Service and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. Maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and precision is crucial throughout every interaction to ensure effective and trustworthy communication. Interpreters play a vital part in facilitating access to government services for diverse populations by bridging language gaps that otherwise may hinder understanding and cooperation.

Candidates entering this role are expected to be fluent in both English and Mixteco and to possess strong communication and interpersonal skills conducive to successful interpretation encounters. Previous interpreting experience is preferred but not mandatory. Technical requirements include having a computer running Windows 10 or newer with at least 8GB of RAM, stable high-speed internet connectivity, and a USB wired headset to guarantee clear audio quality. Wireless or Bluetooth headsets are not permitted to avoid connectivity interference during interpretation sessions.

This interpreter role not only offers the convenience of working remotely but also provides the opportunity to engage in impactful government projects while enjoying the freedom and autonomy typical of freelance work arrangements. Joining Ad Astra means becoming part of a supportive and experienced team dedicated to excellence and making a tangible difference in community access to critical services. If you meet all criteria, Ad Astra encourages you to apply and join a distinguished network of professional interpreters committed to shattering language barriers across the United States.
