Job Description

Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the homeless, impoverished, and those struggling with addiction and mental illness. Established as a ministry grounded in Christian faith, UGM works to restore lives through both practical support and spiritual guidance. With its headquarters located at UGM Motors, the organization operates various departments with the goal of providing compassionate services while upholding its Statement of Faith and Core Values. UGM’s commitment extends beyond simply providing jobs; it considers every position as part of its ministry and encourages all employees to actively participate in Bible study, prayer, devotions, and sharing the Gospel. This unique integration of faith and work creates a supportive and purpose-driven environment for employees and the community alike.

The Production Associate role in the Upholstery Department at UGM Motors is a vital position focused on hands-on production work involving sewing and embroidery of materials predominantly used for boats and furniture. This full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week with flexible scheduling options, involves setting up and running industrial sewing and embroidery machines. The associate will be responsible for cutting, sewing, and installing upholstery materials, with an unwavering attention to detail and quality. In addition to operating specialized equipment such as drills, drivers, band saws, and riveters, the Production Associate will also troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on these tools to ensure smooth workflow and client satisfaction.

Beyond technical skills, this position emphasizes collaboration and leadership within a team framework that includes working closely with volunteers. The associate is expected to be both a learner and teacher, fostering a community atmosphere consistent with the mission-driven culture at UGM. Working in this environment means being part of a ministry and a broader purpose to help transform lives. The associate will engage with customers to understand their needs, provide creative suggestions, and prepare accurate estimates, thereby supporting both the operational and relational facets of the ministry.

The role calls for individuals who are not only skilled in upholstery work but also deeply committed to Christian values and ministry objectives. Employees must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and are expected to participate actively in spiritual activities as part of this ministry role. Maintaining a clean, orderly workspace and adhering to safety and quality standards are essential components of daily duties. Employees also must pass criminal and financial background checks due to the sensitive nature of the mission work.

UGM offers competitive benefits including paid time off, health-related insurance options covering employees and their families, and retirement plans with company matching, reflecting the organization’s commitment to supporting its team both spiritually and materially. This position offers a meaningful opportunity for those who seek to integrate their faith with their professional skills, contributing to a transformative mission dedicated to the poor, homeless, addicted, and mentally ill communities.
