Job Description
The University of North Texas System (UNT System) is a comprehensive public university system based in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which encompasses multiple campuses including the University of North Texas in Denton and Frisco, the University of North Texas at Dallas and UNT Dallas College of Law, and the University of North Texas Health Fort Worth. Serving over 49,000 students and employing more than 14,000 staff members, the UNT System is committed to excellence in education and innovation, contributing to the economic development of North Texas. The system champions a people-first, values-based culture, embracing principles of respect, belonging, access, and integrity while fostering an environment that encourages curiosity and shared success.
Within this dynamic university system is UNT Dining Services, the largest self-supported food service department in North Texas, renowned for its innovative approach to campus dining. Offering five dining halls, more than 20 retail locations, an upscale restaurant, hydroponic gardens, and a central scratch bakery alongside full-service catering, UNT Dining is a leader in culinary excellence and sustainability in the collegiate environment. UNT Dining is nationally recognized, with accolades such as being ranked No. 2 nationwide for best college food by Delish.com and awards from the National Association of College and University Food Services. It spearheads initiatives in plant-forward dining, food waste reduction, and allergen-free menus.
The Senior Food Service Manager at UNT Dining’s Bruceteria plays a crucial leadership role in managing one of the highest-volume, all-you-care-to-eat dining operations on campus. This full-time, senior-level position involves overseeing daily food service operations, ensuring food safety compliance, managing costs, and supervising student and full-time staff. The role requires strong leadership to maintain outstanding food quality, timely and friendly service, and a positive dining atmosphere for students, faculty, and guests. The manager is also responsible for training, mentoring, budgeting, and aligning operations with university policies and health regulations.
Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in food service management, along with a minimum of three years in a related management role. ServSafe certification or its equivalent is required or must be attainable within six months. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and a dedication to operational excellence are essential. This role also includes adherence to strict HACCP and Standard Operating Procedures to uphold safety and quality standards. The manager reports directly to the General Manager and is instrumental in the success of Bruce Dining at UNT.
In addition to a competitive salary commensurate with experience, employees benefit from membership in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS). The work schedule varies and mandates occasional driving of university vehicles. This position is security sensitive and requires submission of professional references as part of the application. Working at UNT Dining means participating in a passionate, innovative team culture committed to providing exceptional food experiences and advancing healthy, sustainable campus dining.
