Job Description
The University of Oklahoma, located in Norman, is a renowned public research university that offers a vibrant and supportive environment for its students. Known for its strong academic programs, diverse campus community, and commitment to excellence, the university provides numerous opportunities for student involvement and professional growth. The university prides itself on fostering a collaborative atmosphere where students can gain practical experience alongside their academic pursuits. This particular opportunity is designed for undergraduate students who are interested in gaining valuable event management and organizational experience while maintaining their academic commitments. The role is best suited for students enrolled during the Fall 2026 term who wish to actively contribute to various special events and enhance their skill set in a dynamic university setting.
This position, categorized as a student employment role, offers an hourly wage of $12 and is structured to accommodate the student's class schedule, although it may require working varied hours, including nights and weekends. The Event Support Student Worker will play a crucial role in facilitating a range of university functions such as ribbon cuttings, graduation ceremonies, tailgates, receptions, luncheons, dinners, and lecture series. The primary focus of the role is to assist in the comprehensive planning and execution of these events by supporting guest list management, preparing event materials, and handling logistical tasks. Responsibilities also include packing and unpacking supplies, assisting with event setup and teardown, and managing communication related to events via phone or email. This hands-on experience will allow students to develop key organizational, communication, and multitasking skills within a real-world setting that values teamwork and efficiency.
In addition to event-related duties, the position requires proficiency in general office tasks, including customer service skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, and Word. Effective interpersonal skills and the capability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. The role demands attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and competence in working under pressure. Strong verbal and written communication abilities are necessary to interact successfully with colleagues, guests, and supervisors. This position offers students a unique opportunity to contribute to the university community, enhance their resume, and develop professional skills that will be beneficial in future career endeavors. While the position is not eligible for benefits and does not require a background check, it requires ongoing verification of student status as a condition of employment. The work schedule is flexible but demands availability beyond typical hours to support special events effectively.
