Job Description
The hiring establishment is a healthcare facility committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This organization prioritizes high standards of hygiene and customer service, especially given the sensitive nature of healthcare environments. As such, it employs dedicated personnel to carry out essential cleaning and support roles, ensuring compliance with infection control procedures and overall operational efficiency.
The role available is for a Unit Support Assistant, a critical position responsible for the routine upkeep and cleanliness of assigned units or areas within the facility. This position requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced setting, is detail-oriented, and values teamwork and professionalism. The Unit Support Assistant performs a variety of housekeeping duties daily, focusing on infection control standards to reduce the risk of contamination and maintain a safe environment for both patients and staff.
Responsibilities include cleaning patient units and areas according to established protocols, maintaining and cleaning patient equipment, and ensuring the timely transportation of patients to and from designated locations within the facility. Additionally, the role supports the overall workflow by picking up and delivering specimens, items, and supplies as needed. This assists in the smooth functioning of the healthcare team, helping meet or exceed customer expectations as outlined in the Service Quality Agreement (SQA).
The position demands accountability and ownership of responsibilities within assigned or designated zones. The Unit Support Assistant must demonstrate a strong work ethic, effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with other team members. They also must be prepared to respond swiftly to emergency spill cleanup calls, adhering strictly to infection control procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
This role plays an integral function in promoting a healthy and safe workplace. Successful candidates will be required to participate in respiratory fit testing as part of occupational health and safety measures. This requirement underscores the organization’s commitment to safety standards and employee well-being.
Overall, this opportunity suits candidates with at least one year of environmental services experience in healthcare, hospitality, or contract cleaning services. Previous exposure to hospital environmental services and housekeeping work is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, though equivalent experience may substitute for formal education.
In summary, the Unit Support Assistant position offers a challenging yet rewarding role where individuals contribute meaningfully to patient care indirectly through maintaining cleanliness, safety, and efficient support services within the healthcare setting. It is ideal for motivated, responsible candidates seeking to develop their skills in a dynamic healthcare environment while making a difference by ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and customer service.
