Job Description
Wellstar Health System is a leading healthcare organization committed to enhancing the health and well-being of every person it serves. Known for its dedication to compassionate care and pursuit of excellence, Wellstar has grown into a shining example of healthcare innovation and patient-centered service. The organization supports professionals who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the healthcare industry and in the lives of their patients. As an integrated health system in Georgia, Wellstar provides a collaborative work environment where contributions are valued and individual voices are honored. Its mission is simple yet powerful — to provide safe, effective, and culturally sensitive healthcare services that improve the quality of life for its diverse patient population.
The Unit Secretary role at Wellstar functions under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager to ensure efficient and smooth nursing unit operations. This position is key to facilitating safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care. Responsibilities include clerical and receptionist functions such as computer order entry, patient data retrieval, maintaining and stocking unit supplies, and handling patient charts and medical records. The Unit Secretary acts as a central communication source on the unit, providing excellent customer service and supporting nursing staff through coordination and communication duties. This role requires someone with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask under pressure. It plays an essential part in patient-centered care by assisting with admissions, transfers, discharges, and tracking bed activity.
In addition, the Unit Secretary is involved in interdisciplinary team collaboration and participates in quality improvement initiatives. They support professional nursing practice through shared governance and ethical accountability, utilize electronic medical records as a super user, and maintain effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare staff. The position demands a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality, safety, and infection control standards. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, clinical experience preferred but not mandatory, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, complex healthcare setting. This is an opportunity to join a reputable health system that values meaningful work and fosters a rewarding professional environment for their employees.
