Job Description

Arrow Sanitary, a Waste Connections company, is a leading provider of waste management and recycling services, dedicated to sustainable practices and customer satisfaction. Based in Portland, Oregon, Arrow Sanitary operates as part of the broader Waste Connections family, which is widely recognized for its commitment to innovative waste solutions and environmental responsibility. As a company that values safety, reliability, and community engagement, Arrow Sanitary offers career opportunities that emphasize these principles. The company is proud to provide stable employment that supports both professional growth and work-life balance for its employees.

The position available is for a Union CDL Driver who is safety-driven and ready to join a dedicated team that serves the Portland community. This role operates on a Monday through Friday shift schedule starting early at 4:00 AM, with daily routes typically lasting between nine to eleven hours. The starting wage for this unionized position is $34.30 per hour, reflecting the company's commitment to fair compensation and employee well-being. This is a safety-sensitive role, which means adherence to safety protocols and regulations is paramount.

As a Union CDL Driver, your primary responsibility will be to operate a semi-automated side-load recycle truck, servicing over 700 customer carts per day. The job demands physical stamina and cardiovascular endurance, as drivers perform strenuous manual labor including loading, unloading, and maneuvering heavy materials, often without additional help. You will be expected to use an electronic route tablet to manage your daily tasks, ensuring each customer on your assigned route is serviced efficiently and correctly as directed by dispatch.

In addition to driving, the role requires routine vehicle maintenance, such as checking fluid levels, safety equipment, and tire conditions, to ensure the reliability and safety of the vehicle at all times. The driver also uses hydraulic hand controls to lift and load recycle containers at designated facilities. Beyond the operational duties, maintaining courteous interactions with customers is crucial, as it reflects the company’s dedication to high service standards and community relations.

The working conditions emphasize continuous physical activity, including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and push or pull objects exceeding 100 pounds. Drivers face exposure to various environmental conditions, including outdoors in wet or humid weather, noise, vibration, and potential exposure to fumes. Safety is a top priority, and drivers must follow all safety precautions diligently to mitigate risks associated with moving mechanical parts and operating heavy machinery.

Arrow Sanitary offers robust union benefits, including comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, alongside a pension plan that contributes to long-term financial security. Additional perks include a $400 annual boot allowance and a safety bonus program allowing employees to earn up to $1,750 per year based on performance and adherence to safety standards. Working for Arrow Sanitary means joining a company that values its employees, offers competitive salaries, and provides opportunities to grow within a supportive, safety-oriented work environment.
